Material Handler/Forklift Operator

We are seeking an experienced Material Handler/Forklift Operator for our sister company, Bayou Processing & Storage, in east Houston. The Material Handler/Forklift Operator moves material and product as directed.
Responsibilities:
* Performs daily inspection
* Reports all deficiencies, unusual noises, or difficulties in operation of the equipment
* Identifies material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and heat numbers
* Determines weight of material and utilizes forklift with the appropriate capacity
* Properly secures material on forklift before moving
* Ensures a safe workplace by maintaining awareness of co-workers in the area
* Advises all co-workers in the area before movement of material on overhead crane
* Follows all company policy procedures, watches for potential risks in the area and notifies management of deficiencies identified
* Attends all training and safety meetings as directed
* Assists with stock checks and physical counts
* Performs other tasks as directed
Qualifications:
* 2+ years of related experience
* Familiar with safe work practices, and procedures
* Knowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment and rigging
* Ability to move large sized and unusually shaped steel plates in a safe manner
* Ability to calculate weights of material
* Professional communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to traverse the distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
* Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
* Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
