INDIRECT SUPERVISOR: Sanitation Lead/s

Job Summary: The Sanitation Technician is responsible for the cleaning of all equipment and infrastructure in a thorough and efficient manner, adhering to the proper sanitation procedures and guidelines while following safety rules and using their designated PPE. This position is responsible for disassembling/reassembling plant equipment and protecting sensitive equipment from damage during the sanitation process. The Sanitation Technician must understand how to operate cleaning equipment and exhibit the proper use of all sanitation chemicals and resources per regulatory regulations.

Education & Experience:
  • Grade School Level; High School Diploma or GED a plus
  • 1- 2-years' experience working in food manufacturing or similar industries.
  • 1-2 years' experience in sanitation procedures with food manufacturing equipment or similar experience.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  1. Must have proficient communications skills both verbal and written.
  2. Must have proficient math skills.
  3. Must have proficient analytical skills.
  4. Must have proficient problem-solving skills.
  5. Must have basic computer skills.
  6. Must be an excellent team player.
  7. Must be self-motivated and be able work with little or no supervision.
  1. Must be able to work most of the time with water and chemicals.
  2. Must be able to work in a safe manner while maximizing productivity and efficiency.
  3. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  4. Must be able to perform work while standing during prolonged periods.
  5. Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp and work in adverse and awkward positions.
  6. Ability to drive a forklift/industrial equipment is required.
  7. Must be reliable, punctual and have schedule flexibility including working weekends, Holidays and off-shifts as needed.
  8. Must be able to comply with company attendance and punctuality policy.
  9. Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
  10. Must adhere to a drug and alcohol zero tolerance policy.
  11. Must be able to comply with and follow all food safety, and third-party certification policies (SQF, Gluten-Free and Organic, )
Method of training: On-the-job training

  • Complete an oral exam that covers the different types of chemicals that are used in the sanitation department.
  • Process and procedures of cleaning and sanitation.
  • Environmental Information and Recycling.
  • Food Safety Practices & Policies (e.g. HACCP, Food Safety, GMP's, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free)
  • Injury & Illness Prevention Program. Will receive general training and orientation that may include:
    1. Company rules and regulations.
    2. Plant Safety and Emergency Procedures
    3. OSHA Required Safety Programs
    4. LOTO -Lock Out/Tag-Out Program
    5. Hazard Communication and Safe Chemical Handling
    6. Training & Certification: Electric pallet jack, scissor-lift, and a forklift.

Essential Functions/ Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Always performs tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
  2. Must be able to learn how to clean the different types of machinery and know the type of chemicals that are used when cleaning. Must rotate cleaning areas every day.
  3. Cover all electronic devices and panels with plastic, prior to starting wet cleaning in production area.
  4. Must be able to use an air nozzle, in certain areas; while using air sprayers nozzle, ear protection and bump cap must be utilized.
  5. Must be able to use a water nozzle, in certain areas; while using water sprayers nozzle, the proper PPE (apron, boots and bump cap) must be utilized.
  6. Must always check after cleaning any type of machinery and equipment is completely clean, and all the parts are properly assembled.
  7. Ensures all the equipment used to clean is stored where it corresponds and not left in areas where it does not belong.
  8. Responsible for following proper Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures. Mixers, corn, and flour machines must be completely turned off and blocked with safety locks.
  9. Must be able to work in a team to be able to clean any type of machinery at the time that it is required.
  10. All the waste that the machines generate must be correctly weighed to obtain the exact totals to ensure waste totals are accurate.
  11. Report to the supervisor any safety hazard, such as any open electrical box, any loose cable or wires on any machine or anything that can cause a serious accident.
  12. Always use the ladder or scissor lift (if you are trained to use it). Never climb on top of any machine to do any kind of cleaning.
  13. All chemicals that are in a secondary container must be labeled following OSHA- GHS procedures.
  14. Must be able to operate the trash and recycling machines; responsible for notifying the supervisor they have reached their maximum capacity.
  15. Responsible for using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times such as safety Goggles, hairnets, apron, and boots (use boots whenever working in the washroom).
  16. Janitorial Duties: May be asked to assist in janitorial duties such as restroom, office area, and company property premises maintenance.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

  3. Driving industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks.
  4. Exposed to rotating and reciprocating parts.
  5. Exposed to cool, hot temperatures and noise.
  6. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  7. Temperatures ranging to very warm conditions.
  8. Loud noises generated from equipment.
