ABOUT US:

Volta Labs is building a suite of genomics applications for our first-of-its-kind digital fluidics sample prep automation platform. Our technology will remove the need for laborious sample setup, provide a technology-agnostic suite, and shorten sample processing time from hours to seconds. We believe our tech is the next step in unlocking the hospital of the future and will accelerate medical research by decades.

THE TEAM:

You'll join a team of innovative thinkers who love to experiment, collaborate, and win together. We are passionate about pushing the boundaries of automation, biology, computing, robotics, design, and user experience to benefit our customers and the world.

As an Instrument Reliability Engineer, your primary mission is to oversee the operational integrity and maintenance of Volta Labs' cutting-edge instrument fleet. This requires a mindset geared towards troubleshooting and quality assurance, ensuring that every piece of equipment operates at its best. Instrumentation of the highest quality is not just our standard, it's a critical need for our day-to-day operations and a driver for our commercial product development.

This role is at the heart of Volta Labs, requiring dynamic and daily interaction with hardware, software, and biological application development teams. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams will be essential for success. Your work will enable the creation of robust automated workflows, playing a pivotal role towards the milestone of our first commercial product launch.

Your First 3 Months
    • Conduct routine preventative maintenance and performance assessments on Volta instruments.
    • Rapidly address and troubleshoot instrument-related issues, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
    • Meticulously document all test procedures, data, and observations.
    • Assist in the design and assembly of commercial-grade Volta instruments.
By The 6-Month Mark
    • Analyze and interpret trends in instrument performance, sharing insights across teams.
    • Innovate and refine instrument performance testing procedures to maximize uptime for all internal Volta instruments.
    • Apply learnings from testing and troubleshooting to influence the design and development of our instruments.
    • Begin supporting or leading the delivery of Volta's commercial instruments to our inaugural customer base.
At 12+ months
    • Transition towards a pivotal role as a Field Service Senior Engineer, where you will lead efforts in deploying, servicing, and troubleshooting Volta Labs' instruments at customer sites.
    • Cultivate a team of field service technicians and engineers, providing mentorship and leadership to enhance field operations and customer engagement strategies.
Your experience
    • To excel in this role, you'll need a solid foundation in hardware engineering, including 2+ years of industry experience, as evidenced by a work portfolio that highlights your expertise in prototyping, experimentation, and hardware testing.
    • Proficiency in Python scripting, particularly for data analysis and visualization, to support evidence-based decision-making and performance optimization.
