GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Anesthesia Manager, the Certified Anesthesia Tech is certified through the American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians (ASATT). They assist staff Anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists in performing technical and clinical anesthesia preparations for procedures in all anesthetizing locations. The certified member of the Anesthesia care team demonstrates problem-solving skills, supports employee engagement initiatives, and maintains trusting, credible, and professional behavior with all members of the Anesthesia care team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Anesthesiologist/CRNA with intra-operative patient care and troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment. Perform duties of the Anesthesia Technician during turnover between cases, ensuring the workspace is ready for the next case. Ensure anesthesia carts, machines, and workrooms are stocked and organized, maintaining minimum par levels. Maintain a physical presence in designated perioperative areas to assist anesthesiologists/CRNAs as needed. Assist with Joint Commission preparation by maintaining and discarding outdated supplies. Maintain inventory of supplies in the anesthesia workroom and report items needed for ordering. Demonstrate knowledge of operating and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment. Transport blood products and samples for laboratory analysis. Check monitoring equipment daily and assist in preparation. Be available to assist with difficult airways and other emergencies. Ensure all anesthetizing locations have the necessary monitors, medications, and supplies for safe administration of anesthesia. Respond to emergency situations and ensure emergency equipment is functional. Monitor operating room schedules for prompt turnover and setup. Respond to communications from the manager and anesthesia care team. Champion Point of Care (POC) equipment and training. Clean and maintain anesthesia equipment according to infection control requirements. Adhere to department and hospital safety and infection control policies. Check anesthetizing locations between cases for adequate supplies. Coordinate with respiratory therapy for collection of empty oxygen tanks. Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills with all members of the anesthesia care team. Perform related duties as requested by the manager, providing daily reports. * Performs additional duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Work requires a high school diploma and seven years of experience as an anesthesia technician. Knowledge of medical terminology typically acquired through a college-level anatomy and physiology course. Experience/knowledge with patient care procedures related to anesthesia, monitoring devices, and techniques. Knowledge of Anesthesia Equipment: Understands the design, setup/calibration, testing, operation, and troubleshooting of anesthesia delivery and monitoring equipment. Skills: ANESTHESIA EQUIPMENT: Connects circuits and demonstrates appropriate setup/calibration/testing of equipment. ANESTHESIA SUPPLIES: Stocks and organizes anesthesia-related supplies. AIRWAY MANAGEMENT: Assists in routine and non-routine airway management. INTRAOPERATIVE MONITORING: Sets up and calibrates both invasive and non-invasive monitors. INFECTION CONTROL: Uses approved techniques for decontamination and sterilization. BLOOD PRODUCT ADMINISTRATION: Understands processes for obtaining and verifying blood products. Certification Requirements: ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T) or Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer.A.T.T) certification is required. Must maintain ASATT Certification. BLS for Cer.A.T, ACLS for Cer.A.T.T, within 3 months of hire. PALS preferred. HOURS: 1:00PM-9:30PM JHM prioritizes the health and well-being of every employee.
