Job Description As a key member of the Business Intelligence Solution team, the Senior Cognos Developer will work cross-functionally with the other team members of the organization on the reporting requirements and data. This will include understanding the data architecture of the data warehouse, the business rules for reporting, and understanding the reporting frameworks that are created by the BI Architect. Primary responsibilities include working with Business and IT stakeholders to understand business goals and requirements in order to quickly deploy reports and analytics that enable better decision making. The Senior Cognos Report Developer will provide development, testing, and support throughout the report development lifecycle. Responsibilities Act as a BI Cognos SME and process expert for developers, testers, and business analysts and give technical direction. Work with Business Analysts, Application Developers, Solution Architects, and Database Developers in analyzing business requirements and specifications and translating those requirements into Reporting design. Develop complex Cognos reports with an emphasis on accuracy and timely delivery. Work with users from a variety of business areas in identifying and developing reports. Heavy emphasis placed on delivering results, working well across business and technical teams, leveraging Agile methodologies, and enabling innovative solutions. Provide training, support, and best practices for Adhoc query users. React quickly to changing business demands. Self-manage and multitask consistently. Understand the project management process and can complete SDLC documentation. Partner with the Database Administrator and Cognos Administrator to assist in the verification and validation of reports and data. Train end-users on the solution if needed. Write efficient SQL and store procedures against database tables on various platforms for data validation. Profile and analyze data during the Report development. Created centralized reporting solutions that work on multiple project requests. Utilize best practices when creating new packages. This includes maintaining a clear naming convention, ensuring optimal organization of data, and providing clear documentation. Provide mentorship to educate team members on the processes and structures of the Cognos Models, reporting designs, and testing strategies. Maintain currency in the field through continuous learning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business, or related information technology field with coursework in an information technology specialization related to programming reports. Extensive Cognos Framework Manager modeling experience. Experience working with Cognos in a multi-tenant environment. Knowledge of Cognos modeling and report development best practices. Report and model trouble-shooting skills. Ability to convey BOTH technical business acumen in terms of requirements, approaches, responses, and outcomes. Ability to present to internal/external groups as required. Cognos Transformer experience (designing/developing PowerCubes). Understanding of effective dimensional modeling techniques as they relate to the performance of Cognos. Familiarity with other Cognos UIs, especially Metrics Studio, Event Studio, Query Studio, and Analysis Studio. Strong understanding of Data Warehousing concepts as applicable to BI. Ability to effectively take initiative and multitask to manage time-sensitive deliverables for internal and external customers. Strong ability to utilize written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer service orientation and commitment to professionalism. Ability to work independently as well as on a team. Desired 5+ years of experience developing/designing Business Intelligence solutions (at least 3 of which on the IBM Cognos platform).
