Job Summary:
The Wayne Health Mobile Units represent the future of healthcare, providing 'care your way, where you live and work,' with the long-term goal of improving population health outcomes. The Wayne Health Mobile Units deliver an ever-expanding menu of health care and social services directly to neighborhoods or places of employment.
The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Vaccine Coordinator will provide professional care to patients following established departmental policies and procedures, in addition to assisting the
Vaccine Manager with vaccine inventory, documentation, and Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) assistance.

Job Description:

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements, oversees and updates the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) vaccine inventory with oversight from the Vaccine Manager.
  • Assists with administrative Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) duties as assigned to ensure MHU complies with state and federal governmental and accreditation policies and procedures; including internal audits.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program, staying up to date with trainings on routine and emergency standard operating procedures (SOPs) for vaccine ordering, storage, handling, transport, and inventory management.
  • Oversees onsite Immunization Care Team by assuming responsibility for vaccination and medication administration.
  • Administers vaccines and monitors patients for post-vaccination care at Mobile Unit sites.
  • Ensures proper documentation of patient encounters, including patient/parent teaching, screening for allergies, post-vaccination care, vaccination summary and coordination of onsite health services.
  • Performs internal audits in Electronic Health Record (EHR) to ensure MHU clinical and non-clinical staff are following department protocols and procedures. Intervene with staff education when needed.
  • Stays up to date on vaccine information in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), and Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and relay any updates to staff/leadership. Assists with training/competencies for employees.
  • Fulfills and maintains all mandatory trainings to remain compliant with departmental, state, and federal process and procedures.
  • Checks and maintains temperature logs for all MHU sites, and records daily AM & PM temperatures for office medication refrigerators and freezers. Downloads and backups data logger data weekly and maintains the reports. Responds to temperature excursion appropriately.
  • Performs diagnostic testing on MHU as needed, including retinal imaging.
  • Performs general patient service representative duties, including patient intake and registration in EHR, both prior to events and on vaccination sites.
  • Performs revenue cycle tasks, including patient running insurance eligibility prior to and on vaccination sites.
  • Administers Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Questionnaire.
  • Maintains the emergency medicine kits, including ordering and replacing expiring medications.
  • Other duties as assigned to fill the needs of the department.
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training Required for the Job:
  • High school degree or GED.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the medical field required.
  • LPN or RN license required.
  • Experience in Mobile Health Unit preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience with pediatric health care preferred.
  • Vaccine/MCIR experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively.
  • Good analytical and judgement skills.
  • Ability to use computer and software programs and systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and /or financial data.
  • Progressive inventory experience preferably in a health care environment.
  • Outstanding organizational skills including strong planning skills with ability to prioritize and plan work activities.
  • Ability to adapt to working in outdoor elements, rain, snow, heat, in compliance with the departments Weather Policy.
  • Ability to travel to Mobile Health Unit sites and be flexible with changes in locations/sites due to external factors (i.e. weather, cancellations, add-ons, etc.).
  • Flexibility to adapting to ongoing updates and changes with job duties, requirements, and tasks.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move Mobile Health Unit equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
Safety Requirements:
  • Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedules:
  • 40-hour workweek, hours and days (some weekends required) to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required.
  • Must be able to work in a mobile unit environment with occasional office hours.
