POSITION DESCRIPTIONENGINEER I – OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGYPOSITION OBJECTIVES: Provide project management services for the Engineering andOperations Division on special projects in order to achieve the goals of the division andcooperative; provide technical assistance on the design of the Cooperative distributionsystem and assist in providing research, analysis, and recommendations for use on thelatest developments for the electrical system of the Cooperative; provide and assist in theengineering plans, programs, and procedures necessary for the orderly expansion of theCooperative distribution system; and to work and communicate in a team orientedenvironment in accordance with the vision, mission, and values of the Cooperative.

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodateindividuals with disabilities.

EDUCATION: Require Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Prefer a Degree in ElectricalEngineering. Prefer significant progress toward EIT certification and undergraduatecurriculum including engineering related to the field of electrical power distribution andtransmission. Prefer PMP certification. Exception to these requirements may be made only ifthe applicant demonstrates that he/she is currently pursuing a program of self- developmentthrough a formal program of extension education.

EXPERIENCE: Require one year of responsible electrical distribution experience involved inengineering design and layout for the expansion of the electric distribution system,power requirements, and related specifications and codes.

KNOWLEDGE: Require a thorough knowledge of basic electrical engineeringprinciples including three phase power calculations, electrical rotating machines,transformer theory, and AC and DC circuit analysis. Require a thorough knowledge of basicmechanical design and engineering economics. Prefer a working knowledge of theapplication of engineering principles and practices involved in the design and layoutof electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, the National ElectricCode, National Electrical Safety Code, and RUS Specification and constructionassemblies.

SKILLS: Require ability to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside andoutside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and acceptincreasing responsibilities. Require the characteristics necessary for providing effectiveleadership, guidance, training, and direction. Require the ability to develop schedules andprocedures for the collection of system engineering data and be able to arrange andreport such data in a manner useful for planning purposes; the ability to work withpersonal computers and applicable software; ability to develop and carry out plans for themost effective use of work time; ability to establish and maintain effective supportiverelationships and make a contribution when participating in planning and development ofwork programs, budgets, work flow, and improved reporting.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS AND CONDITIONS:Reports to: Director, Operational Technology Directs: NoneInternal: Actively participates within the Cooperative team environment to developsupportive relationships essential to the success of the functions of this position,achieving the results expected and encouraging throughout the organization theconcepts of teamwork and cooperative spirit. External: Develops and maintains supportive relationships with member/consumers,the general public, and other external contacts to assure positive results.

This position is primarily sedentary work; requires visual acuity in machine operationwith inspection; requires ability to hear, talk, and perform repetitive motions; and is notsubstantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginalfunctions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scopeand duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the needsof Jackson Electric Membership Corporation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide project management services for assignments as directed.Functions include but are not limited to the following: identifying goals,planning, evaluating, organizing, making recommendations, implementing,training, and controlling. Additional responsibilities may include project orprogram maintenance, management, and support to appropriate users. 2. Provide technical expertise and functional knowledge of projects assigned.Act as intermediary between users and vendors, resolving issues asrequired. 3. Coordinate as necessary between different functional areas to completetasks and update ongoing programs. 4. Assist the Metering/Apparatus Supervisor with the installation,programming, maintenance and testing of metering and apparatusequipment. 5. Develop thorough knowledge of electrical distribution systems, commondistribution equipment, typical system problems, and solutions. Develop athorough understanding of engineering economics and comparative valueof alternative solutions. Prepare evaluations and recommendations asassigned. 6. Provide guidance and assistance to other areas within Tech Services;participate and encourage cross training. 7. Provide technical assistance to other departments during planned oremergency power outages to the extent necessary that will ensure thecustomer has the highest degree of continuity of electrical service. 8. Assist in providing engineering support to cooperative members. 9. Maintain a working knowledge and follow the best safety practices set forthin the Cooperative's SAFETY MANUAL. 10. Attend and participate in annual meeting as required or directed. 11. Perform such other duties as may be required or directed.
