Job SummaryUnder general supervision of the Director of Technology; duties shall include the ability to work in the Journeyman level of electronics work. Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of CCTV systems, Handheld Radios, Police and Medical Notification system coordination, and a variety of electronic and electromechanical equipment; perform system administrative software modification and configuration of an electronic database in support of the District's CCTV system, and user-related information. Provide user training as necessary. Assist with skilled and semiskilled tasks in other trades. Candidate should be comfortable with heights, for use with lifts and ladders.Job Description / Essential Elements: FULLERTON JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICTELECTRONIC TECHNICIANBASIC FUNCTION:Under general supervision of the Director of Technology or Facilities Supervisor; duties shall include the ability to work in the Journeyman level of electronics work. Perform installation, maintenance, repair and modification of security alarm, fire alarm, public address, intercom/master clock systems, and a variety of electronic and electromechanical equipment; perform system administrative software modification and configuration of electronic database in support of the District's alarm system networks, site, and user related information. Provide user training as necessary. Assist with skilled and semiskilled tasks in other trades.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to assemble, install, repair and maintain a variety of security and fire alarm systems, electronic equipment, including intercommunications systems, centralized sound systems, public address systems, electronic security alarms, intercom telephone systems, bell and buzzer systems, clock systems and portable electronic equipment;Utilize test equipment to certify installations;Trouble-shoot and repair of existing communications systems, such as District's scoreboards and PA systems, stadium and on-campus systems;Conduct repairs and troubleshoot cabling media; program and identify related software configuration issues;Coordinate line installation and problem diagnostics with the telephone company in support of the security alarm network;Program communication, including partitioning zones and data entry, of District personnel access to security alarm systems;Evaluate existing systems and develop recommendations to specifications for expansion or upgrade of systems;Test performance of equipment to determine effectiveness;Test and diagnose equipment malfunctions; replace defective electronic components and wiring utilizing a variety of specialized tools;Align, adjust, and calibrate equipment and test instruments according to local and state codes;Synchronize, adjust, and repair systems to component level;Disassemble, adjust, and repair secondary time clocks;Program electronic control systems;Diagnose and isolate faulty mechanical and electronic problems;Evaluate existing cabling and determine requirements for expansion or upgrade;Install conduit, cable, and wiring;May coordinate or participate in the digging of trenches;Plan and organize assignments;Troubleshoot by testing with an oscilloscope, volt-meter, signal generator, Fluke testers and other instruments to determine source of problems;Order and maintain an inventory of parts and supplies;Estimate labor and material costs;Maintain records of work performed and material used;Drive a District vehicle to and from work sites;Load and unload vehicle; transport, lift, and carry equipment, tools and supplies;May direct the work of maintenance assistants; andPerform other related duties as assigned. ELECTRONIC TECHNICIANPage TwoKNOWLEDGE OF: Methods, procedures, standards and theories of: communication networks; security alarm; fire alarm systems;Operation of electronic equipment, materials, tools and techniques used in installation, maintenance, and repair;Principles of electronics and electrical theory;Applicable state and local codes and regulations;Principles of electronic and electrical theory;Current developments in voice/video/data communication systems;Understanding in the use of diagnostic testing equipment;Tools used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of cable media;Skill in personal computer use utilizing Windows based operating systems for switch configurations;Understanding of circuit switched and Internet protocol switched networks, software utilities, cable requirements and interface technology; andSafe working methods and procedures.ABILITY TO: Install, repair, test, and maintain LAN/WAN communication systems and electronic equipment;Operate various related tools used in testing and repair;Ability to read and develop scope of work which may include blue prints, technical drawings, flow charts and technical manuals;Perform heavy manual labor;Lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects;Work at heights or in confined spaces;Stoop, bend, squat, reach and grasp;Distinguish color and have visual depth perception;Maintain records;Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships;Independently analyze problems and implement solutions;Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;Work flexible hours when necessary.EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION: Graduation from high school/equivalent; andThree years practical experience involving the installation, maintenance, and network programming of security alarm and fire alarm systems.CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1.
