Job Description

The Brunswick School is a preschool in Downtown Jersey City, NJ serving food for children 6 months through 6 years old. The incumbent would be responsible for all aspects of kitchen support, safety and all other activities which support quality and health of the children. our school has a robust food menu and this support staff would report into the Head Chef to support with the day to day operations of the kitchen.

Daily duties include but are not limited to :
  • Preparation and cooking of food and purees
  • Organization and inventory of food and supplies. To include frigerated and dry ingredients, paper products and serving materials.
  • Following directions for preparation of menu items using The Brunswick School ingredient list.
  • Support with the distribution of food to classrooms.
  • Dishwashing.
  • Cleaning of kitchen to include taking out the trash and recycling.
Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Strong interest in cooking health supportive cuisine
  • Preference given for someone who worked who worked at least one year in a school or similar environment as a cook or head chef
  • Familiarity with preparing sound nutrition and special diets
  • Great customer service experience
  • Ability to design a very healthy menu especially for very young children with many dietary restrictions
  • Ability to understand board of health and state regulations to ensure excellent state surveys
  • A reputation for showing genuine compassion to students to meet their individual needs
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to standards based on business expectations
  • Ensure culinary equipment is properly operated and maintained
  • Safe serve certificate completed
