GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aquatics Lead directs lifeguard staff, performs the duties of a Lifeguard, maintains proper pool chemistry, monitors operating equipment, and ensures a clean, safe aquatics facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS, TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY:
Tasks
- Performing opening and closing procedures such as turning on/off lights, prepping counter, testing pool for pH and chlorine, and bringing out equipment for programs.
- Routinely testing pool chemicals and checking that the deck and bathrooms are free of debris.
- Installing and removing lane lines according to scheduled activities.
- Working at the front desk greeting patrons, and answering questions (in-person and on the phone). Using the cash register for different transactions and adhering to all North Bend Pool and City of North Bend recreation and financial procedures and policies.
- Providing education and enforcing safety regulations for patrons.
- Creating and implementing training for staff and programs such as Junior Lifeguards.
- Assisting in scheduling and collecting timesheets for staff.
- Organizing staff and facilities for lessons.
- Respond to various questions, resolve problems, and provide technical assistance to lifeguards and the public.
- When the Aquatic Coordinator is not available, ensure that minimum compliance requirements are met, information is given/received to/from the Parks and Facilities Manager, and established deadlines or obligations are met.
- Ensure the security of the pool facility when the Aquatic Coordinator and Parks and Facilities Manager are not present.
- Maintain the swimming pool by cleaning and adding chemicals as needed to maintain proper pool chemistry. Take filter readings and check pumps and operating equipment as scheduled or necessary. Check for and correct safety problems, and advise the Aquatic Coordinator of issues needing attention and/or correction. Identify issues needing repair or maintenance.
- Maintain accurate and timely records on pool operations.
- Perform aquatics instruction and lifeguard duties as needed and instructed.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other City programs and systems to perform job duties. This includes using the City's e-mail system to engage in appropriate and professional communications internally and externally as needed to perform job duties.
- Maintain professional, respectful, productive, and cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations, and the general public.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas. Correct and/or report unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Assist other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate.
- Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
Education and experience requirements listed are minimum standards. Other equivalent combinations of education, certifications, training, and experience may be considered.
- Possess an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or equivalent.
- Possess or obtain American Red Cross Water Safety and Lifeguard Instructor Certifications or equivalent within 6 months of employment.
- Have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a lifeguard and 6 months experience in a leadership role. Can be supplemented with education and certifications.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.

The factors described herein, are representative of, but not all-inclusive of, those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform as an Aquatics Lead.
Environment:
- Work is primarily indoors with some outdoor exposure.
- Pool environment with wet and slippery conditions.
- May be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatics facilities, as well as blood and body fluids while rendering first aid and CPR.
- Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, and pool mechanical systems.
- Constantly exposed to wet and dry conditions, fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when in the facility.
- Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment and furniture or children and adults who may require removal from the pool, and stay in the pool for prolonged periods.
- Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.
- Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and swim while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment.
- Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations.
- Must also possess the mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person or by using a telephone and radio.
- Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or to operate safety equipment.
- This position requires mobility.
- Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds regularly and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer, keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
This is a part-time, temporary position. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides instruction and direction to Lifeguards. Responsible for general supervision of other staff when the Aquatic Coordinator and Parks and Facilities Manager are not on site.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Aquatic Coordinator and Parks and Facilities Manager.
