RN - Team Lead - Behavioral Health

In addition to meeting the basic standards of a Staff RN, the Team Leader is expected to role model and exceed the Standards of Performance. In conjunction with the Manager, s/he is to assume the accountability for the quality for nursing care delivered on a specific unit. The Team Leader gives direct care and oversees the care given by other nursing personnel on the unit. The Team Leader coordinates orientation of staff members, participates in evaluating their performance, and provides continuing education. The Team Leader also assists the Manager in planning and managing the resources necessary for the delivery of patient care in the specified area.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- BSN required.
- License:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Indiana is required.
- Maintains required certifications as required per unit (i.e. de-escalation training).
- Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider required.
- Training:
- Individualized preceptor training for four to eight weeks. This may be more or less at the discretion of the Manager and/or Director.
- Experience:
- At least 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse in a health care facility preferred.
- Previous Psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
- Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional references, technical procedures/protocols, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports and other forms of correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present verbal and/or written information, and respond to questions, to all customers.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages and proportions, to calculate dosages, amounts and volumes.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Computer Skills
- This job requires computer and systems competency in the following areas: enters data, retrieves data, assembles and organizes data, uses and analyzes data, integrates diverse sources of data.
- The ability to learn and use the provided electronic medical record system within six months of attaining nursing position.
- Mental and Emotional
- There are mental and emotional requirements of all positions working in a health care setting due to the nature of the services provided. The requirements include: handling multiple priorities, making decisions under pressure, working in close proximity to others and/or in a distracted environment, managing anger/fear/hostility, managing stress appropriately, working with others effectively, and working alone effectively.
- Compliance and Regulatory
- All employees are required to comply with all laws, regulatory guidelines, and health care policies. This includes, but is not limited to: federal, state and local laws, Indiana State Department of Health, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), The Join Commission, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and organizational policies and procedures. All employees are required to be compliant with hand hygiene guidelines as well as adhere to safe practices (identifies and reports unsafe practices).
