  • Respond to emergencies and physically inspect buildings, including moving furniture during inspections as necessary.
  • Develop and deliver programming that enhances the student experience at Paul Smith's College by contributing to students' intellectual enrichment, health and wellness, multicultural understanding and sophistication, and the building of a cohesive community support system that will serve them during their academic career and beyond.
  • Serve as a Conduct Officer for mid-level infractions of the Code of Conduct/Community. Investigate cases of alleged violations of the Code and manage individual student conduct cases. Interview relevant parties, gather relevant information, and prepare investigative packets to be used in case management.
  • Inform students of their rights and responsibilities as outlined in the Code. Use an educational and developmental approach to working with students while emphasizing accountability and promoting personal responsibility. If needed, training to be provided by current Conduct/Community Standards professionals.
  • Participate in new student orientation, open houses, commencement, and special events as may be required, e.g. the coordination of an efficient check-in and check-out process for new and returning students.
  • Be well versed in services offered by other college offices including Campus Safety, Student Wellness, Facilities and Dining Services. Work collaboratively with the Facilities Department to address custodial and maintenance issues.
  • Participate in regular on-call duty rotation. Schedule duty rotations for Resident Assistants and other student staff.
  • Participate in College-wide committees as assigned. Attend college-wide events such as Admissions events, New Student Orientation, Campus "All Hands" meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director of Residence Life and Housing.
Qualifications:

  • Professional Student Affairs experience preferred and/or previous professional work experience in Residence Life and Housing required. Experience in Community Standards/Conduct work desirable but will train.
  • Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of on-campus residential living.
  • Record of success in planning, scheduling, and implementing fall and spring semester resident assistant training programs.
  • Able to act as a goodwill ambassador for the College, maintaining a positive and proactive relationship with students, staff, guests, and all college constituencies.
  • Effective interpersonal and conflict management skills are required. The successful candidate be self-motivated, dedicated, and will seek out learning and professional development opportunities.
