Job Summary Assistant to the executive director involved in planning and developing all aspects of API CO's activities where assistance is requested or assignment is delegated.

Works with and assists the executive director in executing programs to influence issues of concern to industry including; regulatory and local government matters. Works to build partnerships with relevant state and local officials.

Engages with the media to promote the benefits of/defends the natural gas and oil industry and assists member company representatives with public relations issues as they arise. Finds and promotes opportunities to deliver API messages to strategic audiences by leveraging API's communications assets through earned and paid media. Engages and works with third parties and both non-traditional and traditional allies to promote API's strategic initiatives. Duties/Responsibilities Under the supervision of the executive director, manage assigned regulatory and local government issues. Anticipate and identify emerging and potential issues impacting the petroleum industry and plans, develops and executes programs or activities to address these issues on behalf of member companies. Provides leadership in the development of the petroleum industry's regulatory & local government priorities and works with the executive director to ensure activities meet these priorities. Works with the executive director to keep the appropriate advisory committees and members of the state working group, and other interested company personnel informed on matters of interest and ensure the appropriate input is solicited to maintain effective management of these matters. Develops and maintains close cooperative relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, industries, and other key constituencies with interests similar to the petroleum industry and assists in development of ad hoc coalitions among these constituencies to carry out programs of mutual interests. Cultivates good working relationships with regulatory agencies, county commissioners, city council members, planning staff, etc. Under the supervision of the executive director, assist in the preparation of testimony, data, position papers, comment letters and other appropriate communications to promote the position of the industry on issues before the local governments and regulatory agencies. Provides media relations counsel to API Colorado and API headquarters as needed. Develops issue management strategies and approaches to help meet communications objectives. Engages and works with grassroots organizations, coalitions, allied trade associations, non-traditional allies, etc. to promote API's strategic initiatives. Key Relationships Manages issues assigned by the executive director including taking a leadership role in organizing and leading efforts at the local level and assisting in regulatory proceedings. Requires a close relationship with API and industry personnel, government officials, key private sector constituencies, professional and non-profit organizations, the media and others. Maintains and builds rapport with media contacts, general public, and member company representatives in order to advance API's communications goals. Qualifications Require 7-10

years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise. Bachelor's degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience. Requires a working knowledge of the operations of state and local government. Understanding of the petroleum industry is preferred. Excellent written, oral, and analytical skills are required.
