Description
The purpose of this position is to maintain assigned buildings in clean, sanitary and secure condition. This position is full time, non-exempt. Work schedules are subject to the times building occupants will not be interrupted. The Custodian reports to the Lead Maintenance Worker, but must be able to work independently, be self-motivated and make changes as needed on a daily basis without the supervisors presence.
Duties Include
- Personal safety must be adhered to at all times.
- Buildings must be secure at all times.
- Bathroom maintenance and sanitation; cleans mirrors with glass cleaner, cleans and disinfects toilets, sinks and all bathroom surfaces. Stocks paper towels, toilet paper, soap and other bathroom supplies.
- Disinfect all common touch surfaces, i.e. door handles, doorknobs, light switches, etc.
- Clean and sanitize drinking fountains.
- Dusts all furniture, windowsills, floorboards, equipment and fixtures in offices and in common areas.
- Empties all trash and garbage containers and deposits waste in designated dumpsters.
- Ensures the security of all Cleaning and Sanitation equipment and supplies by locking in designated storage areas.
- Secures building doors and windows if there are no other staff members present. Safely keeps all assigned building keys.
- Sweeps, scrubs, mops and waxes all floors that are not carpeted.
- Must maintain equipment and supplies in a tidy and organized manner.
- Must be able to perform all work duties with minimal interruption to other staff occupying assigned buildings.
- Vacuums all carpeted areas of assigned buildings, ensuring that corners and edges do not accumulate dust and overhead dusting which may require a ladder.
- Cleans all interior windows regularly with glass cleaner.
- Wash exterior windows monthly.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Lead Maintenance Worker.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to distinguish between different cleaning supplies.
- Some knowledge and/or the ability to learn about occupational hazards and personal safety precautions.
- Ability to perform a variety of routine cleaning tasks.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge and ability to operate custodial equipment such as buffers, carpet cleaners, etc.
- Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekend work required.
- Ability to report to work as scheduled and notifies the appropriate individuals in advance if unable to work.
- High school diploma or GED
- Requires the ability to learn the proper use of cleaning and sanitation equipment, supplies, and cleaning methods.
- Ability to move between buildings, operates and lifts equipment, and use commercial cleaning supplies.
- Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 65 pounds
- Normal audio and visual acuity
