Overview The Site Safety Manager is responsible to work with the entire work force at a designated Banker Steel facility. The Safety Manager is responsible for the daily safety management, health awareness and environmental compliance and overall well-being of our workforce and assets. The Safety Manger reports directly to the Banker Steel Corporate Safety Director and partners closely with the Plant Manager and staff.

The main objective is to expeditiously recognize, evaluate, and control or mitigate all safety hazards. This is accomplished through individual and collective engagement, as well as ownership of company safety policies and programs. This role requires that the Safety Manager be a hands-on problem solver spending approximately 50%of their time on the shop floor.

Essential Functions Implements and coordinates programs, training, and activities to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and associated financial losses. Identifies and evaluates conditions which could result in unwanted incidents or financial losses. Identifies safety hazards in various areas of our fabrication plants and promotes engagement by all employees in doing the same. Develops and / or implements, safety, accident-prevention, and loss-control programs. Conducts quality safety orientations for all new hire employees. Conducts and promotes others to conduct documented safety audits, including corrective solutions and actions for hazard identification / elimination. Trains employees to recognize, evaluate, and control specific hazards associated fall protection, aerial lifts, forklifts, cranes, rigging and other tasks as necessary. Trains employees in behavioral based risk analysis, communications, awareness, and elimination of hazardous behavior. Facilitates pertinent weekly safety meetings, in conjunction with quality and operations. Assists supervisors with daily task-planning discussions. Maintains current and accurate SDS file for all materials on site. Ensures that corrective action is initiated by the supervisor responsible for that area and aids as needed in hazard elimination. Evaluates hazardous conditions and works with supervision to eliminate the hazards. Maintains safety compliance within OSHA, Company, and Client / Customer Standards.

Provides technical assistance to supervision on safety related matters. Supports the establishment of a Plant Safety Committee in conjunction with plant management and trade employees. Conducts injury, property damage, and near miss investigation to eliminate repeat occurrences. Prepares and facilitates incident Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and training to proactively eliminate repeat occurrences. Maintain a positive proactive relationship with employees, supervision, and management. Acts as a liaison with government agencies such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, along with other regulatory agencies. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Corporate Safety Director.

Core Competencies Problem solving skills, both Critical and Analytical. Teamwork, collaboration, and strong conflict resolution skills. Understanding of OSHA standards, particularly in General Industry. Strong knowledge of LOTO, electrical, confined space, fall protection, rigging / hoisting, PPE, and HAZCOM requirements. Proven ability to train large multiple groups of employees. Effective and efficient in time management. Diligent completion of assignments and essential functions. Knowledge of all other applicable federal, state, and local safety, environmental, and health regulations.

Specialized Knowledge High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum two-years’ experience working in a professional safety role. Legal to work in the United States. English/Spanish bi-lingual preferred.
