Position Overview Position Type: Leading District Professional / Director Location: Wichita Bus Barn Posting Date: 12/19/2025 Closing Date: 01/16/2026 PC: 14023 | Grade: 405 | 239 Days | Salary: $97,569 - $117,552 | FLSA Status: Exempt Position Purpose Supports the Executive Director of Transportation by managing daily transportation operations, providing top?notch customer service, supervising personnel, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, overseeing fleet availability, coordinating communication among stakeholders, assisting with budgeting and reporting, and contributing to strategic planning and key performance indicators to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient student transportation services. Essential Job Functions Operations Oversee the dispatch of buses for regular and special education. Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and field trips. Monitor fleet availability and adjust routes or staffing as needed. Manage GPS data, camera systems, and telematics to ensure functionality and effective use. Analyze ridership data to recommend route consolidation or expansion. Support drivers with student behavior issues by providing guidance and intervention strategies. Promote a positive work culture built on accountability, teamwork, and customer service. Ensure continuity of leadership and services during the Executive Directors absence. Communication and Customer Service Create a positive and predictable school bus experience for students, parents, and staff with safety and on?time performance as paramount. Manage routes to be on time and consistently follow the planned schedule. Develop a culture of excellence where all interactions with students, parents, and administrators are performed with patience, professionalism, and a people?first attitude. Ensure rigorous safety standards, well?maintained vehicles, and driver training focused on student safety. Respond promptly and professionally to complaints, inquiries, and service concerns. Provide clear, accurate, and timely information about routes, delays, policy changes, and service disruptions. Conduct community outreach to improve public understanding of transportation procedures and safety. Records, Reports, & Correspondence Assist in implementing procedures that maintain safety standards in compliance with state and federal laws and insurance regulations. Communicate effectively with parents, administrators, and staff. Communicate with campus and central office administrators concerning transportation bus routing matters such as potentially hazardous conditions and construction areas. Collaborate with Transportation Managers for department operation and address inquiries related to transportation routing matters. Maintain preparedness for emergencies and crisis situations. Oversee the creation and management of the Bus Driver and Monitor manual. Maintain accurate records of inspections, accident reports, and compliance documentation. Administrative Responsibilities Develop, review, and update job descriptions for transportation personnel. Oversee filling of vacancies in a timely manner; conduct interviews, complete selection processes, and coordinate onboarding and training of new hires among Transportation teams. Safety Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. Follow established safety procedures and techniques; correct unsafe conditions and report them promptly. Supervisory Responsibilities Select, train, supervise, evaluate staff, and make recommendations regarding assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Other Duties as Assigned Perform all job?related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies, and regulations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of District policies, procedures, and regulations. Knowledge of federal and state school transportation regulations. Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of computerized routing software. Skill at the advanced level with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word). Skill in performing mathematical and statistical calculations with accuracy. Skill in organizing, analyzing, and summarizing complex data. Skill in conducting cost?benefit analyses using judgment and creativity. Skill in organizational development, communications, and public relations. Ability to train end?users in GPS software, fleet management devices, routing software, and video software. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to conduct on?site inspection of District transportation operations. Ability to manage and create budgets and monitor accurate budget reports. Ability to use software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and produce word documents. Ability to communicate effectively, including oral and written presentations, reports, and memoranda. Ability to engage in self?evaluation regarding performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Travel Requirements Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). Environment: Works in an office setting; occasionally irregular and/or prolonged hours. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required. Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions. Minimum Required Qualifications Education Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required. Bachelors degree from accredited college or university preferred. Certification / License Clear and valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (Class B) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements required. Insurable by the Districts insurance carrier required. Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Certification preferred. Experience 710 years of experience in transportation in a comparable environment. Experience utilizing and training end?users in GPS software, fleet management devices, routing software, and video software. Experience with routing and scheduling (dispatching), driver training, accident investigation, inventory control, and bus specification preparation. Experience with logistics: detailed organization and implementation of complex operations. Language Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $97,569 $117,552 (based on experience and qualifications). Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and life insurance. Insurance Requirements for Drivers Must be at least 21 years old. No positive drug or alcohol tests, including pre?employment, random, post?accident, or reasonable suspicion. Driving and accident record: No more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including moving traffic violations (no more than 1 preventable accident), failure to provide proof of valid drivers license or insurance, or equipment violations. NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol. NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage). NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide. NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked drivers license. NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing. NO using a vehicle in commission of a felony. NO operating a vehicle without owners permission (unauthorized use or grand theft). NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive. NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit. NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle. Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check (Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations).
