Pulmonary Medicine Associates (PMA) has been treating patients in the greater Sacramento area since 1973 and is a unique and exciting place to work. With specialties that include pulmonary, critical care, infectious disease, palliative care, sleep medicine, and travel medicine, we are a busy practice with over 45 providers and 2 outpatient clinic locations.

PMA currently has a FT Patient Services Representative (Check-In) position available at our Sacramento clinic to fill in for an employee on leave; position is expected to last approximately 6 months. General Duties Include:

Greets all visitors to the clinic in a friendly manner.

Obtains prior authorization for follow-up office visits.

Updates demographic and insurance information in patients account as needed.

Ensures co-pays are collected for all visits and accurately posts charges and payments in EMR.

Tracks pending referrals and reviews daily for approval.

Researches denials for hold reasons and corrects claims before dropping.

Reschedules patients noted on the reminder call report on a daily basis.

Updates no-shows and cancellations in EMR as they occur, ensuring all appointments have been cleared by the end of the session (morning/afternoon/evening).

Reconciles Check-In and Check-Out batches accurately, according to PMA procedure.

Prepares daily bank deposit according to PMA procedure and ensures it is picked up by the courier to be transported to the business office.

Answers phones and makes same day and future patient appointments in EMR according to clinician protocols.

Works closely with physicians assuring completion of death certificates.

Assists in answering incoming phone calls to the general clinic extensions.

Assists Check-Out by sending orders that require no authorization.

Acts as backup for Check-Out position, as needed or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High school diploma or GED.

Two to three years of related work experience in a medical environment.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Knowledge of medical billing procedures and HMO/PPO insurance programs.

Excellent phone etiquette and verbal communication skills.

Strong customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, patients, and the general public.

Strong detail orientation.

Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

Ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities.

Must be able to accurately type 45 WPM.

Valid California drivers license and automobile insurance. Ability to drive run occasional errands.
