Senior Accountant - United Air Temp

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in the financial health of a fast-growing 500+employee, $100M HVAC and Plumbing company, reporting to the Controller onsite in Lorton, VA.

Responsible for ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, reconciling, and entering financial transactions. Job includes participation in monthly; annual financial closing and reporting, including preparation of required reports, financial statements, annual budgeting process, and assistance with preparation of other financial data to support management decision-making. Work requires a detail-oriented person who enjoys working on all areas of accounting for a service company.

Senior Accountant - Primary Job Functions:
  • Report and support the business in preparing accurate, complete, and timely financial statements and management reports.
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries for the month-end close including the reconciliation of inter-company transactions.
  • Serve as System Administrator for Lease Query - lease management system - for recent implementation of ASC 842. Maintain lease schedule to successfully comply with new lease accounting standards for all company leases.
  • Support initiatives to drive standardized and actionable reporting, including the development of ad hoc reports using available tools.
  • Participate in the response to inquiries from management, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in the development and completion of special projects as assigned.
  • Prepares Monthly Financial Packet:
  • A/P & A/R Reports - balanced to B/S
  • GL Detail Report - Review for discrepancies and address with department managers and Controller when necessary
  • GL Entry Report - with backup
  • Balance Sheet review and reconciliation
  • Manage vendor and customer relationships with urgency and efficiency.
  • Analyze and resolve issues and concerns quickly, escalating when necessary.
  • Directly responsible for all cash accounts; reconciling statements monthly, overseeing daily deposits, and handling high-level issues.
  • Review AP check runs and releases based on cash flow and deadlines.
  • Manage weekly and monthly financial and cash reporting.
  • Audit P&L Expense Report (GL Detail Report for requested accounts) - monthly.
  • Sales Tax Reporting and payment- monthly.
  • Preparation, execution, reporting, and general ledger entries of payroll bi-weekly.
  • Reconcile bank statements for all accounts monthly and produce the reconciliation report
Senior Accountant - Skills & Specifications:
  • Clear understanding of GAAP financial statements.
  • Ability to apply finance and accounting knowledge in performing daily activities.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office skills including the ability to develop sophisticated spreadsheets which include advanced interactive functions such as macros/pivot tables or other advanced formulas.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form and to collaborate and build positive rapport with all levels of staff and management across functional areas.
  • Responsive, organized, and detailed oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to define and implement internal controls, process improvement, and/or best practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-growing company and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work as a member of a team and lead a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills and phone etiquette.
  • Passionate and hardworking.
