The Principal Engineer is responsible to develop and maintain skill sets and work practices to align with the expectations and needs of the organization. Scope This position is a part of global Air Cooled Chiller product engineering team. The engineer will work under the engineering manager to support design and development of various new chiller products and support production of existing products globally. Principal Duties (as Related To Functional Responsibilities) Master of theories, concepts, technical principles and processes related to fluid, thermal, and other mechanical aspects of air or water-cooled chillers Takes a lead role in the on-time completion of programs and regularly reports on the status of projects Strategic communicator able to speak for the business unit and represent the organization in planning. Has proficiency in mechanical design and be able to conceptualize and implement design ideas into products and find opportunities across different product families. Applies mechanical codes such as UL, CE, PED and ASME Ability to resolve field issues with aggressive time constraints, perform root cause analysis, troubleshooting, data analysis, corrective actions. Strong knowledge in design for manufacturing. Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and knowledge on variable speed drives and Magnetic bearing compressors or turbines Works closely with the design and manufacturing teams in generating layout concepts and system configurations that consider the best balance of cost, performance, and reliability. Analyzes, designs, modifies and/or troubleshoots mechanical sub-components and sub-systems based on test data Generate and review technical documentation for use within the product team Occasional domestic and international travel (less than 10%) Requirements The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. BS in Engineering or related science Minimum 8 years of experience in a related field. HVAC / Chiller experience preferred. Proficient with organizing and processing large amounts of data Experience with product development, project management, and sustaining of configurable systems Ability to mentor and train other engineers.
