The Overland Park Traffic Services Division in the Public Works Department is hiring a seasoned traffic engineer (a Civil Engineer II or Senior). The Traffic Services team includes one City Traffic Engineer, two Supervisory Civil Engineers, four Civil (traffic) Engineers, five Traffic Engineering Technicians, and four Transportation Project Inspectors. Our work includes: Managing and reviewing consultant-designed projects for traffic signals, streetlights, signing, and other related traffic infrastructure Preparing and reviewing in-house pavement marking plans for annual street resurfacing projects Overseeing the construction of traffic infrastructure by contractors Promoting and designing for active forms of transportation including walking, biking, rolling, and scooting Analyzing traffic data (crash reports, speed studies, volume data) to remediate safety issues (yes, Toto, more roundabouts) Responding to neighborhood traffic issues which may include traffic calming Management and operations of a multi-million dollar traffic management center that includes a fiber network to 275 traffic signals and over 200 traffic cameras Seeking outside funding to leverage city funds to their fullest potential Developing our staff with challenging and exciting work every day The successful candidate hired for our open traffic engineer position will be surrounded by a talented group of team members who are known as some of the go-to professionals in the Kansas City region.
