Director of Parkway Operations

to oversee the year-round operation of a three-theater film complex that functions as a multi-disciplinary film, community, and education hub, serving a broad cross-section of the Baltimore public and beyond. The Director will have an exciting opportunity to be part of the leadership team which will achieve the next phase of growth in resources, partnerships and audiences for MdFF and position the organization in the film landscape in the MidAtlantic region and globally. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Parkway Operations is responsible for overseeing the operations of the historic SNF Parkway theater complex and year-round programs. The Director leads all facilities and customer service operations and supervises all operations staff including the Theater Manager, Assistant Theater Managers, Audio Visual Producer, Projectionists, Box Office staff, and all part-time theater personnel and contractors. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Daily Operations Supervision:

Supervise day to day operations of the facility, presentation and production of programs, including in person and virtual festivals, screenings, concerts, classes, exhibitions, and events. Lead daily and long-term scheduling and staffing supporting these activites. Operations Department Leadership:

Oversee the Operations Department budget including tracking expense and revenue actual against the budget. Work with the Executive Director and Finance Director to develop each year’s budget. Front of House: Customer Service & Box Office:

Train and manage box office and front-of-house theatre staff. Ensure excellent customer service and manage customer feedback. Concessions:

Oversee concession offerings, including quality, special offerings for special events, inventory safeguarding and controls, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. Security:

Oversee building security, including negotiation, review and management of security contract and contractors. Rentals & Partner Use:

Oversee the Parkway’s rental & partner program, managing its budget, approving client contracts and directing and supporting the theatre management staff who manages rentals. Ensure the needs of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) are in accordance with the Usage Rights Agreement. Technical Direction and Building Operations: Technical Direction:

Oversee the specialized use of the technical systems that deliver the Theater’s high-quality programs, directing use of the projection, sound and lighting systems for both MdFF programming and external rentals. Train and direct technical staff who setup and operate these systems and ensure quality control. Technical Systems Oversight:

Oversee operations, preventive maintenance, and repair of all building systems including theater technical systems (projection, sound and lighting systems); ticketing and point of sales systems; other operating and mechanical systems and equipment in the historic building; and digital & networking systems. Train technical staff who use operate these systems and support maintenance and repair efforts. Troubleshoot interaction of high-tech systems in the historic building as needed while maintaining the integrity of the historic aspects of the facility. Building Operations & Care:

Oversee the operations, preventative maintenance, and repair of the historic building. For any system or building repair or upgrade needed, solicit and evaluate bids, select contractors/contracted services, and oversee contractor schedule and work activities. Develop short- and long-term plans for the upkeep and improvement of physical assets. Initiate and manage capital improvement projects to address required issues. Procedures and Risk Management:

Establish and monitor operating policies, procedures, and organizational controls (including COVID-19 protocols) that ensure efficiencies and maintain high quality standards. Establish and monitor security measures and internal controls that mitigate risk. Oversee operating permits, licenses and inspections (liquor license, fire marshal and other inspections, food safety and OSHA protocols, etc.), ensuring they are up to date and that all building rental requirements are met. Manage third-party service contracts, monitoring purchasing and vendor contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness and anticipated service delivery. Team Management and Development Recruit, hire, train, manage. mentor and develop all operations staff to support daily operations and execution of business operations. Serve as the primary resource for all operations staff. Develop operating policies, practices, protocols and procedures and train staff on them. Mentor and develop staff using a consistent, supportive and collaborative approach that builds their operational and financial acumen over time. Oversee staff performance management. Partner with the Executive Director and Human Resources to strengthen staffing plans, employee relations, training and development. Determine how to effectively integrate volunteers into the operations of the theatre, programming and special events. Train and develop volunteers on policies, practices and procedures. Leadership & Planning:

Serve as a member of MdFF’s senior leadership team, representing the needs of the theatre operations department, its staff, and building systems in MdFF’s organizational goals and plans. Work with the Executive Director, Artistic Director and Director of Marketing in planning the Theatre’s annual calendar that delivers high quality programming and experiences to audiences and the community. QUALIFICATIONS -7+ years experience working in technical direction/production/operations roles. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a venue management role with facility/technical operations responsibilities preferred. -Ability to manage multiple projects and a diverse set of workflows concurrently, and problem solve. -Experience organizing complex events and production teams. -Ability to analyze, interpret, and make decisions based on business data. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail and a customer service orientation. -Experience leading, managing and developing a team of regular staff, seasonal staff and volunteers. -Proficient with technology: Fluency with Google products, Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365. -Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for MdFF’s mission. -Broad knowledge of and interest in the moving image art form, film festivals and the independent film community. Additionally, the following experiences would be valued: -Experience with ticketing, point of sales (POS) and/or CRM systems -Experience managing a movie theater and knowledge of movie projection and sound equipment. -Experience working in a historic building or facility -Experience and familiarity with Baltimore and the film and cultural community -Operational knowledge of social media
