Job Summary: The Tax Assessor is responsible for evaluating and determining the value of real estate properties and personal property for tax purposes. This role involves conducting assessments to ensure fair and accurate property tax assessments in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Tax Assessor works closely with property owners, County Tax Board, and other stakeholders to address questions and resolve disputes related to property valuations. Key Responsibilities: Property Valuation: Conduct field inspections to evaluate the condition, features, and value of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Analyze property sales data, market trends, and economic factors to determine accurate property values. Apply appropriate valuation methods, including cost, income, and sales comparison approaches. Assessment Administration: Maintain and update property records, including ownership information, property characteristics, and assessed values. Prepare and maintain assessment rolls and databases to ensure accurate and timely tax billing. Review and process property tax exemptions, abatements, and appeals. Customer Service: Assist property owners with inquiries regarding property assessments, tax rates, and appeals processes. Address and resolve disputes related to property valuations and assessments. Provide clear and accurate information to the public regarding assessment policies and procedures. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure assessments comply with local, county, and state regulations and standards. Prepare and submit reports, documentation, and data required for tax assessment purposes. Stay informed about changes in tax laws, regulations, and appraisal techniques. Collaboration: Work with county tax board, tax collector, construction official, and other departments to coordinate tax assessment processes and resolve issues. Participate in public meetings, hearings, and committees as needed. Qualifications: Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Economics, or a related field preferred. Must be a Certified Tax Assessor; a Professional State Appraisal License is advantageous. 2 to 3 years in a Tax Assessor's office is required, and prior experience in property appraisal or real estate is preferred. Skills and Abilities: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in appraisal software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines. Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field inspections. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively. Work Environment: Office setting with occasional field inspections. May require travel within the jurisdiction for property evaluations. Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. #J-18808-Ljbffr
