Staff Accountant

This position includes compiling and maintaining accounts payable and accounts receivable records by performing the following duties:
Major Responsibilities:
1. Reviews, codes, and processes all invoices, purchase orders, and check requests on a timely basis. Reconciles credit card accounts for all departments.
2. Prepares all accounts payable checks, ensuring invoices are paid on a timely basis. Obtains approval from Fiscal Manager or CFO to pay weekly invoices. Checks given to Fiscal Manager or CFO for signature.
3. Analyze vendor accounts and answer all inquiries concerning said accounts. Work with vendors to verify the accuracy and legitimacy of invoices and amounts.
4. Work with staff in other departments to assure appropriate coding and documentation - input budget amendments as approved by supervisory staff and Fiscal Manager.
5. Assist with month end entries or grant coding as requested by Fiscal Manager.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Assists with preparation for annual audit.
2. Assists with inquiries from staff members concerning items posted to their budget.
3. Assists with special projects, as necessary.
4. Ensures the provision of quality services to clients through participation in the agency's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process.
5. Displays competence and responsiveness to cultural differences present in both customer and staff population.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge: Prefer degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
Experience: One year experience preferred. Teachable attitude is a must.
Skills/physical/working conditions: The position requires computer skills in data entry, familiarity with Accounting Software, word processing and creating/maintaining Excel spreadsheets.
