Job Summary: The Billing Clerk II monitors patient accounts and initiates billing procedures for the purpose of maximizing reimbursement.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: 1 - 2 years related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of healthcare billing practices including Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement procedures and protocols. Working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding practices. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of numerical data. Ability to operate a 10-key adding machine by touch.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Monitor, review and update patient accounts according to established protocols. Act as a liaison between third-party payers and Saint Francis Health System to resolve unpaid accounts due to missing or incomplete information. Serve as an information resource regarding insurance, billing and patient accounts for other departments within Saint Francis Health System. Initiate billing procedures to reconcile patient accounts.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
