**Job Description Summary**The Director of Research Administration and Finance provides strategic leadership and oversight for all financial and research administration activities within the Department of Drug Discovery & Biomedical Sciences. This role ensures compliance with university policies, sponsor regulations, and sound financial practices while supporting faculty and research teams in achieving their scientific and academic goals. Advises the agency director or deputy director(s) on matters related to the administrative/business management activities of the agency; develops and implements administrative policies and procedures. Evaluates agency financial and personnel management activities to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Directs budget preparation and monitors expenditures. Directs special projects and assignments; prepares special reports for the agency director, deputy director(s) or outside organizations.**Job Duties:*** 20% Operational Oversight: Supervise administrative staff supporting finance and research operations; develop and maintain efficient processes for procurement, HR, faculty recruitment and faculty affairs, space allocation and other operational functions; identify and implement process improvements.* 20% Strategic Leadership & Planning: Develop and implement financial strategies to support departmental research priorities and long-term sustainability; advise department leadership on budget planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.* 25% Financial Management: Oversee all departmental financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and reporting; monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with university and sponsor guidelines; prepare financial analyses and reports.* 25% Research Administration: Manage pre-award and post-award processes for grants and contracts; serve as liaison between faculty, central research administration, and funding agencies; ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.* 5% Collaboration & Communication: Foster strong working relationships with faculty, university offices, and external partners; communicate complex financial and regulatory information clearly to diverse audiences.* 5% Policy & Compliance: Interpret and apply university policies and sponsor regulations; provide training and guidance to faculty and staff on compliance requirements.**Additional Job Description****Minimum Requirements:** A bachelor's degree and five years relevant experience in administrative services, public administration or business management.Physical Requirements: (Note: The following descriptions are applicable to this section: Continuous - 6-8 hours per shift; Frequent - 2-6 hours per shift; Infrequent - 0-2 hours per shift) Ability to perform job functions in an upright position.
