Position Overview:

Manages the Processing Department and is responsible for results in production efficiency, safety, quality, sanitation and cost containment. Will create and maintain production schedules/containment plans and disseminate to appropriate groups. Position will supervise the Processing Specialist I position and will work toward creating a high performance work environment in manufacturing. Processing Manager will report to the Manufacturing Director

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage Harvest Containment plan
    • Develop and implement Pre-Harvest schedule plan
      • Single Strength, Concentrate, Kosher, DTC, Puree, and Organic
    • Daily face to face meetings with Welch and National Coop employees for schedule containment updates
    • Planning and ordering of Processing Aids / Enzymes
    • Scheduling of Rabbis for Kosher single strength
  • Manage Post Harvest Containment plan
    • Daily & Weekly Processing Schedule / Tank management
      • Processing single strength for Kosher, USDA, Concentrates and Blends
      • Monitor tanks for settling issues, fermentation and quickly react
      • Creating tank space for various processing steps and other fruit production
      • Tank Bottoms processing
      • Argols/Tartrates collection
      • Scheduling of Rabbis for Kosher tanker loadouts, tank transfers, etc.
  • Processing Specialist will directly report to Processing Manager
      • Processing Manager will provide training to Processing Specialist I in grape processing, tank management, enzyme treatments, settling, filtering and concentrating.
  • Review processing results daily and provide rationale and corrective actions for unfavorable variances and any items relating to processing.
    • Accountable for financial results for Processing Department.
  • Professional communication with Sales, Brokers, International Customers, Vendors, and internal Welch employees regarding Bulk Industrial and International Sales.
  • Active member of Management team who engages the work force positively
  • Actively involved in identifying and implementation of Continuous Improvement/Cost Savings Initiatives
  • Effectively work with R&D in PTRs, Trials, Cost savings initiatives.
  • Ensure Sanitation program is compliant and plant is meeting SQF requirements
  • Backup to Operations Manager during their absence.
Job Requirements:
  • Proficient understanding in processing grapes and other fruits into single strength, puree and concentrates.
  • Proficient mechanical aptitude in understanding of pressing, decanting, enzyme treatments, filtering, concentrating and storage of fruit processing and the equipment used in those processes.
  • Takes personal responsibility for coaching and developing employees through 1 on 1 or group training. Must be able to provide multiple methods of training (hands on at work station, training room setting, outside vendor/contractor, etc.) to improve the knowledge and skill of the workforce.
  • Confronts performance problems directly. Provides helpful suggestions and constructive, motivating feedback.
  • Ensures performance is within budget requirements and food safety guidelines are being met.
  • Proactive in taking steps to improve plant performance, GMPs, safety and employee relations for a healthy work environment.
  • Committed to being a team player and providing feedback to other team members in a respectful manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Operations Management or Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Fruit Processing management experience (Grape preferred)
  • 1 - 2 years of Production Scheduling experience
  • Solid record of safety and continuous improvement in an industrial setting.
