**Job Description**

**Note: This role will support the cities and towns located in the metro-west area of Boston (Middlesex County).**

**Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA)** has a full-time opportunity available as a **Volunteer Support Specialist.**

Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Support, the **Volunteer Support Specialist** is responsible for providing excellent customer service and management oversight of Girl Scout Volunteers, especially troop leaders and community administrative leadership teams.

This position is a flexible hybrid work arrangement, with a GSEMA office located in Waltham. This position requires 50% travel within the council service area.

Supporting the volunteers in the metro-west area of Boston, and with a focus on membership retention and renewal, the Volunteer Support Specialist works collaboratively with other departments to ensure volunteers are prepared to deliver a high-quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

As a member of a mission-driven collaborative team the **Volunteer Support Specialist** will**:**

* Provide volunteers with advice and support in all facets of the volunteer management system including recruitment, placement, training, retention, recognition, and evaluation.

* Ensure Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council and members in the assigned community.

* Contact leaders of newly formed troops to offer support, and visit new troops as needed to provide support and oversight of quality.

* Attend community volunteer meetings (some evenings and weekends required).

* Assist in planning, promoting, and executing Volunteer Conferences, Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, and other volunteer events.

* Promote volunteer trainings, girl programs, events, camp, travel, and troop volunteerism to volunteers, girls, families, and community members.

* Appoint and mentor administrative volunteers, including Service Unit Coordinator, Membership Promoter, New Leader Mentor, and Treasurer, ensuring they are prepared to fulfill their community leadership volunteer roles.

As a **Volunteer Support Specialist**, you have:

* A Bachelors degree or a minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in volunteer management and support.

* High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office software; adept at utilizing social networking; experience using Salesforce preferred.

* Strong public relations skills and ability to develop community collaborations.

* Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills.

* The ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

* The ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel throughout the council service area.

* The capacity to, independently and as part of a team, plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

* The ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.

* The ability to use sound judgment in decision-making and to work independently.

* Possessing bilingual skills is strongly preferred.
