Summary
This position ensures optimum inventory level of repair parts and supplies through effective purchasing and storage programs for a high-speed manufacturing facility and associated refrigerated warehouses. The role plans a critical function to keep the plant operations running in a safe and efficient manner. The role helps to plan and kit parts for repairs. This team member works to purchase and control various repair materials, plant machinery and auxiliary supplies to prevent problems associated with out-of-stock or over-inflated inventories while controlling cost. The role is also responsible for managing and coordinating outside vendor services and scheduling.
- Establish effective inventory control program, including setting minimum and economic order quantities, recommending improved storeroom layouts and procedures
- Purchase necessary MRO materials ensuring availability of parts and supplies for plant operations
- Expedite incoming materials shipments as necessary and communicate closely with individuals awaiting receipts to prevent interference to plant operations
- Coordinate prompt handling of receiving documents and invoices to ensure approval and payment to maximize buying discounts
- Update central storeroom on a continuous basis by re-shelving, rearranging and consolidating stock
- Process all receiving reports, returned goods, purchase orders in a timely fashion to prevent disruption to plant and accounting operations
- Locate, source, and expedite critical repair parts; recommend satisfactory substitutes for unavailable materials and services; tracks shipments; inspects incoming shipments of parts and materials for accuracy, signs of damage and proper pricing; Promptly notifies leadership of critical parts delays, as well as, scheduled arrival
- Knowledge of ERP and CMMS/AMMS (Maintenance Connection) systems which may include writing work orders, looking up work orders, finding parts and writing requisitions to order parts
- Provides CMMS/AMMS oversight of accuracy and use of data; i.e. equipment list, PMs, etc.
- Use the ERP system to timely and accurate purchase and receive parts/materials/supplies
- Negotiate pricing for materials and supplies with vendors based on pricing, quality and delivery; researches and negotiates with various parts suppliers finding the best quality and pricing for parts and materials
- Work with Maintenance Supervisors to identify, review, approve, and assign resources for rebuilds, projects, and related activities; Reviews work orders for proper material consumption and reconciliation
- Retrieves storeroom parts for planned work and kitting; ensures parts are issued to a work order and, or cost center
- Leads cycle counting / inventory counts activities; regularly conducts audits of available parts and materials on hand
- Knowledgeable of plcs, motors and motor controls, transformers and control circuits, filling and packing equipment, glue systems and maintenance shop equipment
- Proven mechanical aptitude helpful
- Manages hazardous waste (used oil, light bulbs, batteries, etc.) and storage area; Manages vendor pickup/shipment and required documentation for hazardous waste (Safety-Kleen)
- Complies with all policies and regulatory requirements; Complies with OSHA safety and health regulations
- Other additional duties as assigned

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee may frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, and with assistance the employee may team lift items up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret documentation including manuals, procedures, rules and instructions
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; Speaks effectively with other employees, vendors and customers
- Ability to perform basic math including percentages, dollar calculations, quantity calculations, as well as, other basic math as needed
- Basic technical training; exposure to high-speed equipment
- Various computer application skills including but not limited to MS office, ERP and AMMS/CMMS systems
- 1+ years of prior experience handling industrial machine parts
- Knowledge of defect management / work order process
- Knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory topics
- Valid drivers license
Preferred Education and Experience
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification
- 2-year degree in relevant technical area or 3+ years of relevant experience in purchasing and storeroom leadership
- 3+ years of related experience in packing machines/production machines
- 3+ years of AMMS or CMMS experience
- 3+ years of ERP experience
