Job Summary
The Manager/Inpatient Pharmacy works under the direction of the Director and is responsible for the day to day inpatient pharmacy operations and supervision of the inpatient pharmacy staff at Skagit Valley Hospital. The incumbent will ensure compliance with applicable USP chapters, Pharmacy purchasing practices, and regulatory bodies (Board of Pharmacy / DEA / FDA / DNV / HRSA). In addition to comprehensive pharmaceutical care through filling prescriptions and providing clinical services, this position, above all, acts as a role model for the inpatient pharmacy team in overseeing and directing inpatient pharmacy operations. As the Manager/Inpatient Pharmacy this position provides outstanding service to all staff and patients and accurately dispenses prescription medications. The manager may be required to perform the functions of Pharmacist or Technician, within their areas of responsibility. The Manager is a representative of Pharmacy, who will support the mission, vision and values of Skagit Regional Health and Pharmacy, which includes outstanding service to all staff and patients, clinical excellence, and financial stewardship.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the day to day operations of assigned inpatient pharmacy operations. Achieves business objectives by managing personnel and equipment, limiting expenses, directing operations to best serve patient units, monitoring department performance metrics, upholding proper pharmacy and general safety procedures and standards and partnering with management in developing and implementing pharmacy programs to help meet sales objectives and increase prescription volume. Maintains inventory levels to organizational goals, rotates stock, complies with recalls and utilizes return process. Staffs an RPh as needed and coordinates inpatient pharmacy through scheduling; directs and monitors pharmacy personnel and performance by providing ongoing proactive, constructive feedback, training and evaluations; make recommendations for hiring, promotion and termination. Responsible for all activities related to the preparation, dispensing and delivery of medications and pharmacy related products. Focuses on hospital staff and patient satisfaction and ensuring that patients are provided service through the use of best practices and prompt communication with physicians and colleagues in alignment with SVH Service Standards and Universal Attributes. Ensures that all work processes are performed efficiently and effectively at each work station by prioritizing workload and organizing workflow. Verifies accuracy of pharmacy team by following established procedures. Works in communication with various levels of management to resolve issues. Maintains proper pharmacy general safety procedures and standards and department cleanliness. Ensures timely implementation of organizational policies, procedures and programs. Enforces compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, organizational policies and procedures and state regulations regarding intern, technician, and assistant training and licensure. Acts as Pharmacist-In-Charge for regulatory, legal, and compliance audits, serves as the Designated Person for area(s) of responsibility. Maintains all state and federal record keeping for legend drugs and controlled substances. Adheres to Skagit Valley Hospital policies and procedures including dress code standards; directs pharmacy team in maintaining the professional appearance of the pharmacy. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Graduate from an accredited pharmacy college recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctor of Pharmacy preferred. Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) is highly preferred.
Experience/Training
Minimum of three years of recent hospital pharmacy practice is required. Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience in an inpatient pharmacy setting is highly preferred.
License/Certifications
Must have an active Washington State pharmacy license.
Other Skills
Qualified to participate in federal health care programs, including but not limited to Medicare and Medicaid and 340B. Knowledge of laws governing drugs, pharmacy products and third party plans required. Must have advanced knowledge of sterile compounding, including USP 797 and 800. Self-motivated with the ability to complete work with minimum supervision under tight time frames. Must maintain honesty, integrity and high levels of efficiency and accuracy at all times. Demonstrated practice proficiency in multi-tasking, championing change, initiative, customer service, interpersonal relations including building relationships and resolving conflict, decision making, problem solving, teamwork and verbal and written communication. Ability to work a variety of schedules to include long hours, evenings, holidays and weekends, if necessary. Must be able to tolerate repetitive standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting, stretching and reaching. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and pharmacy related software required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.
