Casa Grande, United States Air Products Full time

At Air Products, our purpose is to bring people together to reimagine what's possible, collaborate and innovate solutions to the world's most significant energy and environmental sustainability challenges. Grow with us as we embark on building tomorrow together by being the safest, most diverse and most profitable industrial gas company in the world.

Reimagine What's Possible

Position Overview

A business growth opportunity requires a combination of technical and operations support to ensure the successful start-up, stabilization, and facility integration of new operating units. The assets are key investments in the growing green hydrogen business at Air Products.

The new facility will produce 10 tons per day of green liquid hydrogen, which is slated to be sold primarily into the hydrogen mobility market. The facility will use two large industrial scale electrolyzers to produce gaseous hydrogen, which will be converted to liquid hydrogen using Air Products' proprietary technology. The site will also include an ultra-high purity water production unit and a terminal for distributing product to customer locations throughout California and other markets.

The Integration Manager will have a wide range of responsibilities that will require them to work closely with project execution, the local site team, and regional engineering support teams. Key activities for the role include participating in final engineering design efforts, supporting the commissioning of the plant, stabilizing operation of the plant, and supporting performance tests in coordination with technical leads.

The Integration Manager role will progress through two phases:

Phase 1: Support and provide technical leadership through late-stage design, commissioning, start-up, and stabilization of the new facility.

Phase 2: Transition to a role of technical leadership for the facility. Support the implementation of future projects with the knowledge and experience gained from Phase 1.

The candidate must be self-motivated, a very good communicator, well organized, and ready for a fast-moving environment.

Principal Responsibilities

Phase 1: Final Design, Build, and Commissioning/Start-up

  • Serve as key site liaison between the Project Delivery team and the local Operations staff/support.
  • Participate in design, operability, and hazard reviews as the project finishes construction and into commissioning; with a focus on change notice reviews and overall MOC.
  • Drive development of safety practices and procedures for the chemicals, processes, and hazards that are associated with the new facility.
  • Oversee the transfer of information related plant operations and safe operating limits and ensure that information is transferred and sustained.
  • Assist in development of Emergency Response Guide, PSM, and RMP programs.
  • Provide support and guidance to plant commissioning efforts, including pre-startup safety review support.
  • Ensure thorough project and commissioning documentation handover from Project Delivery to Operations.
Phase 2: Technical Leadership for safe and stable operations of the new facility
  • Coordinate with Engineering and provide local oversight for performance testing of the new process units.
  • Direct the develop of plant performance KPIs and KPI monitoring with a focus on the new electrolysis and ultra-high purity water units.
  • Support plant environmental, health, and safety programs through management of change, project hazards reviews, and participation in site safety meetings and annual safety training.
  • Identify, lead, and complete productivity projects aimed at improving the cost position and/or reliability of the facility.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plant operating issues in coordination with regional and HQ support.
  • Assist in the resolution of reliability and maintenance issues.
  • Initiate and promote the development of best practices related to unit operations at the site, specifically electrolysis and UHP water.
  • Support future development and implementations (e.g., projects) of the new technologies and operations associated with green hydrogen production.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with cryogenic industrial gas production (e.g., liquid hydrogen or air separation), electrolytic cell operation, and/or similar chemical or refining processes.
  • 10 - 15+ years of Operations or Engineering experience in a technical support or design role with industrial gas, refining or petrochemical processes.
  • Experience in plant/unit commissioning and/or start-up.
  • Experience with DCS configuration and/or programming is helpful but is not required.
  • Must have strong communication skills to inform, influence and collaborate with colleagues at all levels from entry level through senior leadership.
  • Proactive with bias for action; focused on delivery and attentive details.
  • Effective working with and leading teams; interacting with plant operators, technicians, and engineers.
  • Desire to make a measurable positive impact to plant performance and profitability.
  • Expected travel is expected to be approximately 10-15%, depending on base location.
