THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Laurel Highlands is seeking an organized, positive individual to provide clerical support at our facility.

If you are a dedicated individual with a positive attitude, organized, and detail oriented, as well as having a strong interest in clerical work, this may be the position for you.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position the Clerical Assistant 2 will perform moderately complex clerical work within standard operating procedures, or function as a lead worker over routine clerical work. Duties involve office or program support functions in reviewing and processing data, information, forms, and other documents, and will include the keyboarding of data and information into computer systems. Responsibilities may involve creating and formatting documents, organizing and verifying information, performing mathematical calculations, maintaining files and records, or assisting the public in completing governmental forms or obtaining general information about programs and services. This position may provide general clerical support to other staff or other departments for efficient office operations. Employees in this job do not require close supervision of assigned day-to-day clerical activities, however, detailed supervisory guidance and review is received for new or unusual situations and changes in office operating procedures and policies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $35,306 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
