Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Program Manager.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for overseeing and coordinating multiple research projects focused on biology of neurodegenerative diseases and therapeutic approaches to thereof. Assists with developing and submitting grant applications to NIH and private philanthropy foundations. Interfaces with NYUGSoM administrative and overseeing agencies, scientific cores, shared resources, and external collaborators. May contribute to data analysis, graphical presentation of data, and writing and submitting of research papers. Aids the PI in the process of grant reporting. Works autonomously and with limited oversight. Reports directly to the PI, and works closely with individual research project leaders in the Lab.

Job Responsibilities:

Grants - Supports conceptual development of grant application specific aims and application experimental design through literature research, critical analysis of the findings, and their discussion during lab meetings as requested. Helps with writing and developing particular elements of the grant application including budget and administrative components. Collects and organizes required paperwork for submission if required for the grant. Does the internal submission of the grant application to the Sponsored Grant Administration (SPA) and resubmits based on the SPA feedback.

Research Projects – Helps initiating research projects through identification and/or importing start up biological materials including antibodies, primers, cell lines, mouse and human tissue, and other proprietary reagents. In this task, interacts with various external vendors providing custom antibodies, peptides, and transgenic animal lines, processes orders and subsequent payments for such.  Tracks progress of particular projects, reports the progress to the PI and the study team during the lab meetings, identifies lying ahead roadblocks, and proposes solutions to thereof. Coordinates interaction between the Lab and NYUGSoM scientific cores and shared resources and external collaborators for individual projects.

Presentations – Gives regular slide presentations during Lab meetings. May be asked to give a poster or a slide presentation during research meeting internal and external to NYUGSoM. 

Regulatory - Interfaces with NYUGSoM administrative and overseeing agencies including Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Review Board, Radiation safety Committee, and Environmental Safety. Responsible for developing, submitting, and maintaining protocols concerning use of laboratory animals, human tissue and/or subjects, isotopes, and biohazard materials to respective agencies.

Contribution to data analysis and reporting. Helps the PI and individual project leaders with analysis of research data, preparation of slides and research figures for grant applications and research papers. Participates in the process of research paper writing and responsible for research paper submissions. 

Grant reporting. Aids the PI in preparing grant reports and is responsible for submitting the reports to proper funding agencies.

Lab operations. Works with Lab Manager in overseeing day-to-day lab operations and assures its uninterrupted continuation. Responds to roadblocks if needed.    Responsible for processing and maintaining material transfer agreements. Helps with procurement of reagents, supplies, and consumable used by the Lab for various projects. Aids the PI with soliciting offers for equipment purchases, and submits equipment purchase requisitions.

Staffing – Helps the PI with search and recruitment of new Lab members and participates in their onboarding process. Oversees and responds to needs of technical staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Provides guidance, training, leadership to less experienced staff. May have input into staff evaluations.

Decision Making and Problem Solving - Combines and evaluates information and data to make decisions about relative importance of information and choosing the best solution to solve problems. Resolves complex situations based on established policies and procedures and refers non-solved issues and questions to the PI.

Other - Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master of Science in biological sciences or equivalent degree in healthcare administration with minimum two years of work experience in academic or biotech industry research. Alternatively can have a PhD in biological sciences without prior work experience. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook, and Adobe applications such as Acrobat and Photoshop. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Time management skills and ability to multi task. Strong understanding and knowledge base of coordination requirements associated with translational/basic research. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Ability to prioritize and rearrange priorities based on multiple factors to achieve successful outcome of a project. Ability to work well under pressure and toward a deadline.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $(phone number removed) Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
