Job Summary

The primary purpose of the full time Director of Academic Advising and Assessment is to direct and manage Academic Advising and Assessment Center.

Job Duties

Responsible for the management, supervision, and leadership of the Advising Center and Assessment and Testing staff.

Provide strategic leadership on advising to the campus at large following Hopkinsville Community College’s advising model. Coordinate all academic advising activities. Create and maintain advising resources.

Ensure new and continuing faculty on advising teams are properly trained. Lead professional development sessions as needed. Oversee assignment of students to advising team in PeopleSoft per Hopkinsville Community College’s advising model once a major is declared or if major is changed.

Design, plan, and execute advising sessions for assigned advisees. Advise assigned students of academic progress and direction to enhance academic success and progress toward graduation. Make recommendations and suggestions based on professional judgment and experience relative to the student’s degree pathway.

Enroll visiting students (students from other institutions outside of KCTCS) into class.

Responsible for the maintenance of the Advising Center website.

Manage the Advising Center budget.

Attend committee meetings, staff meetings, and community events representing Hopkinsville Community College.

Attend conferences, workshops, and webinars that will assist in improving performance in position.

Other duties as assigned by Chief Student Affairs Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree (Education with focus on counseling or student affairs, or related field), and three years related experience, or equivalent.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to work with a diverse student population in a community college setting.

Ability to plan, organize and implement events and day-to-day operations/duties.

Demonstrates and facilitate a team spirit in department and community.

Excellent computer skills.
