Description
Job Summary: Manage all aspects of the product from development, color, and quality fabric production. Identify fabric specs, request initial costs, production techniques, testing standards, the creation and maintenance of production standards, and identify HTS codes for cross-border shipping.
Work closely with order management for both production orders and global customer orders. Also, work closely with Logistics to manage all aspects of the global VIP logistics coordination. Experience using SAP or other ERP-related software is beneficial.
Reports to the VP of Valdese International Products, and works in conjunction with all aspects of product development and quality control. This is a position that works within a small team of people who coordinate the Global Sourcing operation where communication and team contribution is essential to our success.
Essential Functions:
- Work with suppliers to create new fabric constructions either based on existing design files or from a fabric swatch inspiration. Direction may include detailed specifications or loose direction based on the specific project and price point target.
- Request initial cost quotations from suppliers and specification sheets for each new item.
- Create and maintain Pattern Setup sheets with supplier name, fabric specs, and costing information including shipping cost, duty, and tariff based on HTS Code, and the total Standard Inventory Values for each item.
- Initiate the setup of selected fabrics in SAP with a material number to prepare for the production order process and the customer Purchase Order process.
- Manage and maintain all existing pattern set-up forms and SAP by adjusting cost and pricing as changes are made.
- Review the color and quality of incoming shipments from Asia and for specific customer program requests.
- Work with the Quality Assurance team in Valdese to review and identify issues based on customer feedback including help determine the cause of the problem and implement a corrective action plan to correct the problem for future production.
- Establish and maintain a project map listing all ongoing developments and update the status of these developments as they progress.
- Create and maintain Master Standards and manage the standard library for VIP to refer to as needed. Create a proposed plan and schedule to update standards as they age.
- Help answer product specification questions from internal and external origins.
- Work closely with and copy on communications with the team in China for all China-related products.
- Review incoming packages and identify what has arrived and for what purpose so we can respond to suppliers or customers with specific needs.
- Build relationships through communication and meeting with overseas suppliers that conveys a sense of partnership and camaraderie. Your daily communications will be about the creation of new fabrics and the quality of existing fabrics. These communications are opportunities to reassure that our suppliers are our partners and we depend on each other for mutual success.
Qualifications:
- Textile and/or furniture sourcing experience is required.
- Highly organized and process-driven.
- Can perform well in a fast-paced environment
- Meet all pre-employment requirements.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work well with others
