Head of Research and Development

We are in search of a seasoned and highly skilled individual to assume the role of Head of Research and Development. This multifaceted position requires an adept professional capable of driving and managing teams for targeted engineering programs specific to our client's needs for Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles.

At Aerora, we are revolutionizing drone (UAV) designs and operations.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, CA., Aerora provides tailored solutions and systems to major US-branded drone OEMs today. These include remote data links (ground control stations), dual RGB and thermal gimbal cameras, and propulsion solutions. It can be similar for your business. Our technology blocks further expand these and more, allowing our clients to use their engineering budgets much better accelerating their time to market at any scale.

Responsibilities

1. Execute Drone Solutions, Technologies, and Product designs for our clients

Spearhead the design and development of Aerora aerial drone solutions for our clients. Implement the technologies Aerora has, both hardware and software, build upon them, and create engineering programs with the solution architecture needed for our clients to be successful. This has a wide range of designs and client types from multi-rotor, to eVTOL. Cameras, gimbals, propulsion, battery, airframe,

and flight software systems.

2. Team Leadership:

Establish and lead a high-performing R&D team. Provide strategic direction, mentorship, hire, and guidance to ensure the successful execution of research and development projects.

3. Cross-Functional and Cross-Regional Collaboration:

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Business Development, Marketing, and Engineering teams in different regions, to align R&D initiatives with business objectives. Facilitate effective communication and coordination between departments.

4. Quality Assurance:

Lead the Quality Assurance engineers to establish and maintain rigorous testing processes, ensuring the reliability and performance of R&D projects.

5. Innovation and Exploration:

Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies. Lead research initiatives to explore new opportunities, technologies, and partnerships that can contribute to product innovation.

6. Budget and Resource Management:

Effectively manage the R&D budget. Make strategic decisions regarding resource allocation, technology investments, and partnerships to optimize research and development efforts.

Qualifications:

- Educational Background:

Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer science, automation, aerospace, or another related engineering field. An advanced degree (master's or Ph.D.) is preferred.

- Experience:

Proven experience in a senior R&D leadership role in development of consumer electronic products, preferably in the drone or aerospace industry. Demonstrated success in leading the development of complex hardware and software systems. Former working experience both in large corporations and startup environments is preferred.

- Technical Expertise:

Strong background in hardware and software engineering and architecture. Familiarity with drone systems, avionics, aerodynamics, communication protocols. Working knowledge in camera module development, imaging, computer vision, and autonomous navigation.

- Leadership Skills:

Robust leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a technical team. Proven experience in building and scaling high-performance R&D teams.
