THE POSITION

The City of Carson is seeking volunteers for its various departments. Those departments include:
  • City Clerk
  • City Treasurer
  • Economic and Community Development (including Planning and Housing)
  • Emergency Services
  • Finance (Accounting, Purchasing and/or Business License)
  • Information Technology (including GIS)
  • Public Safety
  • Public Works (Engineering, Landscape & Building Maintenance and Right of Way)
  • Human Resources
  • Innovation Sustainability and Project Management
The City does not offer any compensation for volunteering (current hourly rate is $0.00).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Duties varies depending on the volunteer assignment.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications vary by assignment. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Some assignments may require the possession of an appropriate valid California Driver License, and successfully pass medical screening (ex: TB test).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completed volunteer application
  • Completed criminal background check prior to the start date.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions vary by assignment and location. In general, the volunteer work environment is limited to the office and the recreational work environments. Volunteer roles often include interacting with the general public, in both indoor and outdoor work environments.

Volunteer Recruitment Process:

Department directors and/or division managers will evaluate incoming volunteer application. If selected, the volunteer will complete the required background check process (Live Scan fingerprints), as well as any additional medical exams, if applicable.

Volunteer assignments are not compensated, and are not eligible for benefits. Volunteering does not guarantee and/or warrant a future offer of employment with the City of Carson.
