The Department

The Portfolio Associate works closely with the portfolio management team and plays a key role in ensuring that FAMS portfolios are positioned in accordance with the Portfolio Managers' (PM) investment strategies and views, and that organizational and infrastructure capabilities are in place to support the portfolio management process.

Position Responsibilities
  • You will monitor portfolio performance, positioning, risk metrics, etc. to ensure alignment with PM investment thesis and process, and recognize, evaluate, and reconcile any results that are inconsistent with manager or strategy objectives
  • Assist theportfolio managers to develop trading/execution strategies to implement PM views and investment strategies (e.g., fund transitions, alignment of active positioning across funds, futures usage, etc.)
  • Partner with trading desks, PMs and CIOs to implement strategies and flows into and from building blocks as effectively as possible
  • Cash flow analysis; provide insight on liquidity constraints, manager timing preferences and impact on reallocation feasibility and scheduling
  • Monitor and refine risk management frameworks and tools
  • Monitor, review, and refine performance attribution reporting to reflect and validate positions, exposures, and impact
  • Ensure that the trading platform, tools, and execution algorithms are consistent with industry and Fidelity standards
  • Monitor current market events and gauge investor reactions for price dislocations
  • Work closely with the investment staff, investment operations and the technology group on infrastructure improvementsand other projects to support the portfolio management process
  • Work with PMs, quantitative analysts and other investment staff on investment analysis projects that support the development and refinement of investment and/or trading strategies (e.g., ongoing asset class-related research, back testing and optimizations for new fund concepts/fund repositioning, etc.).
Education and Experience
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the investment industry is expected
  • Experience with institutionally marketed fund of fund products
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and/or Finance, with graduate degree (or progress toward achieving) strongly preferred
  • CFA charter or progress toward achieving
  • Educational or work experience in investment management, finance, math, engineering, and/or computer science
  • Portfolio construction principles and practices in a multi-asset class context
  • Experience with multi-asset class risk frameworks and infrastructure, utilizing returns-based and holdings-based information
  • Experience in the usage of derivatives (Futures, FX)
  • Proven success understanding and analyzing quantitative investment data; experience with database and/or quantitative tools a strong plus
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail while handlinglarge workloads and short timelines.
  • Ability toprioritize large workloads while managing to critical deadlines
  • Passion for financial markets and the investment management process
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative,team-orientedenvironment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of basic statistics
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and quantitative capabilities
