Job Summary: The Office of Medical Center Development is responsible for securing philanthropic support for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Office is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of the Medical Center's teaching, research and clinical programs. Summary: The Office of Medical Center Development is responsible for securing philanthropic support for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Office is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of the Medical Center's teaching, research and clinical programs. The Director of Development will be responsible for securing major gifts with a primary focus on the regional hospitals of VUMC. Primary Responsibilities: Build a portfolio of 125+ major gift prospects to be solicited through ongoing identification work and one-on-one discovery calls Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects for major gifts Help support the

philanthropic mission

of the Regional Hospitals of VUMC Develop and execute an annual business plan to meet financial and activity goals Work with local hospital leaders to develop and articulate philanthropic priorities and identify prospects Work closely with colleagues on Development Communications, Analytics & Relationship Management and Stewardship teams to coordinate other activities in support of major gift fundraising Support the work of other major gift colleagues across the institution who identify and solicit gifts Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for all assigned prospects. Build a working relationship with key faculty who will be effective in communicating their vision and opportunities for support at one-on-one meetings or group presentations with major gift prospects Develop a broad knowledge base of VUMC to represent the institution and Department of Medicine Work collaboratively with development colleagues in the coordination of all development prospect activities Support the overall goals of the major gift team and Vanderbilt Development To travel to local sites as required - approximately weekly Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required) 3 years experience (Required) 5 years of development experience and an advanced degree is preferred Experience in advancing major gift conversations and gifts preferred University or academic medical center campaign experience preferred Previous experience in an academic medical center is beneficial High motivation, initiative, flexibility and creativity with ability to focus and prioritize Candidates must also have the capacity to perform in an intellectually rigorous and complex environment, exhibit personal characteristics enabling effective interaction with important constituencies, and possess a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and science education and to the principles governing Medical Center Development.
