JOB DESCRIPTION

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

JOB SUMMARY:

Individual is responsible for planning, organizing and participating in education and training including new employee orientation, continuing education for staff, staff competency training, student programs, therapy staff supervision, etc. Supervises Clinical Educator and Staff Education Coordinator. Staff Development Director also oversees administration of Employee Health/Infection Control Programs. Reports to the Director of Human Resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Organizes and provides training in New Employee Orientation.
  2. Develops and coordinates yearly staff requirement schedule.
  3. Supervises and directs the efforts of the Staff Education Coordinator and Clinical Educator. Manages employee time, attendance, and work performance.
  4. Informs employees of training opportunities.
  5. Ensures competencies, certifications, and licensure are maintained as required by employee.
  6. Ensures proper maintenance of staff development equipment (CPI equipment, videos, etc.). May serve as a CPI instructor and/or assists others in the same with new employee orientees and for recertification of existing employees.
  7. Assists with internal training (i.e., development, coordination, presentation).
  8. Tracks monthly satisfaction of employee training.
  9. Tracks CEU offerings (internal) for reporting to required boards.
  10. Arranges external trainings to enhance the educational opportunities of clinical staff as needed.
  11. Prepares annual education plan by job description and department.
  12. Prepares education plans for performance improvement objectives.
  13. Develops remedial training as needed.
  14. Develops training as needs are identified for organization, department, individual.
  15. Prepares quarterly reports as required on Staff Development metrics.
  16. Prepares reporting on Infection Control and Employee Health metrics
  17. Ensure compliance with Employee/ Health and Infection Control Requirements.
  18. Assists with recruiting and onboarding of new employees
  19. Completes pre-employment health clearance
  20. Assists in employee and patient incident investigations and subsequent corrective action.
  21. Supports Human Resources Department as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Continues self-knowledge development by participating in staff development
(internal and external).
  1. Plans in-services and additional course offering.
  2. Plans release of annual online education and annual skills assessments and delivery of competencies.
  3. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree preferred. Three years' experience working in psychiatric settings and past experience as a clinical instructor preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret instructions, documents and follow procedures. Oral presentation skills. Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively with employees and public.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables as needed. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

Current WV RN license

Other skills and Abilities:

Management of multiple projects and priorities. Computer skills.

Training skills - demonstrated.

Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
