Albany, United States The Miami Herald Full time

Postdoctoral Researcher Location: Albany, NY Description of Duties: UAlbany’s Laboratory of Redox Biology and Signal Transduction, headed by Dr. Ben Boivin, is seeking to recruit one postdoctoral researcher. Research in our lab focuses on deciphering how redox modifications of proteins influence phosphorylation-dependent signal transduction in biology and pathologies. We strive to understand the link between the structure and the function of the Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase (PTP) family members that become turned off by oxidation to gain insight into redox signaling mechanisms underlying disease initiation and progression. In this position, the postdoctoral researcher will explore how PTP1B becomes inactivated in cardiac hypertrophy and apply novel therapeutic strategies to reactivate PTP1B in vivo. The candidate will learn and use biochemical, biophysical, and molecular biology approaches (e.g., immunoblots, immunoprecipitations, microscopy, redox assays, proteomics, Flexcell, AAV-mediated gene-therapy, etc.) in vitro, in cardiomyocytes, and using animal models. In this NIH-funded position, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to present their work at national and international meetings, participate in collaborative projects, and be trained in successful grant writing. Minimum Qualifications: We are looking for motivated candidates with interests in cellular signaling and cardiac hypertrophy. Candidates should have demonstrated their ability to perform, analyze, interpret, and think critically about experiments in the context of a broader research project. Candidates should have at least one published manuscript or a manuscript currently on a preprint server. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team will be highly valued. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community and support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related field. Application Information: Priority review of applications will begin; this position will remain open until filled. Equal Opportunity Employer Statement: The Research Foundation for SUNY will not discriminate in its employment practices due to an applicant's race, color, creed, religion, sex, pregnancy-related conditions, reproductive health decisions, childbirth or related medical conditions, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, transgender status, age, national origin or ancestry, marital status, familial status, citizenship, physical and mental disability, prior arrest or conviction record, genetic characteristics/genetic information, predisposition or carrier status, domestic violence victim status, military status or service, veteran status, or any other characteristics protected under federal, state, or local law. Benefits: The Research Foundation for The State University of New York offers exceptional benefits, such as healthcare, dental, vision, retirement plans, competitive pay, generous paid time off, tuition waiver program through SUNY, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance. The University at Albany offers a variety of performing arts, world-class libraries, and competitive sporting events. #J-18808-Ljbffr
