The Accountant will perform a variety of professional accounting work including: payroll processing, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable. Under the direction of senior team members this position will: support the maintenance of the general ledger, assist in the preparation of Financial reports for the Board, Government, Agencies, and Grantors and support the preparation and analysis of internal reports necessary for reporting, budgeting and financial control. The Accountant reports to the Manager of Accounting. The position is Hybrid: 3 days per week work-in-office and 2 days per week work-from-home. Essential Responsibilities: Manage Accounts Payable activities, including invoice processing, vendor account maintenance, expense report review, payment preparation, invoice research and timely responses to internal and external payment related inquiries. Manage Payroll processing activities including maintenance of payroll records, compliance with payroll regulations and company policies, and accurate and timely responses to internal customer inquiries. Manage Accounts Receivable activities, including preparing invoices, applying payments, payment verification, record-keeping, aging account maintenance, and reporting and timely responses to internal customer inquiries. Prepare schedules to support grants, programs, and donor related activity. Prepare schedule for prepaids. Assist with fixed asset inventory and recordkeeping. Analyze workflow processes and make recommendations for improvements. Perform account maintenance, prepare accounting schedules, reconciliations and record entries. Prepare documentation, internal and/or ad-hoc reporting, and analysis as needed for Executive Management, Department Heads and Board of Directors. Other duties as assigned. Education, Experience and Other Skills: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related discipline required. Minimum of two (2) years of professional accounting experience required in: accounts payable, accounts receivables, reconciliations, variance reports, and knowledge of GAAP. Payroll experience preferred. Grants experience preferred. Skilled in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V-lookups, formulas). Healthcare, ADP or MIP experience is not required but highly preferred. Knowledge: Principles, practices, and methods of accounting and auditing, financial administration including reporting, accounting software and spreadsheet applications. Skills: Examining and verifying financial documents and reports; developing accounting procedures and forms; working independently from general instructions; communicating clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability plan, organize and control multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to recognize, select and use Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in recording and reporting financial information; ability to communicate and interact with clients, staff Board members, vendors, and the public in a positive professional manner. Physical Requirements: Position requires extended periods of sitting, standing, computer screen time, keyboard & mouse usage. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (accommodations provided if needed). Travel: No travel required.
