POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Youth Development and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of the Triangle, the Association Director of Teen Engagement is responsible for department administration, program development and implementation of Association Teen programs and events. This position will work with the Vice President of Youth Development and other staff members to strengthen relationships between the Y and families by assisting with organizing, implementing and developing the family engagement opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for mapping the teen engagement strategy for the Association providing leadership and coordination among the Youth Development Department, Overnight Camps and branches.
  • Develops and leads a comprehensive strategy for teen engagement initiatives and activities that focus on teens doing good for their communities, for their futures and for their health.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, membership teams and branch and Association departments to implement a cross-functional continuum of quality teen events and programs.
  • Partners with colleagues within the organization to implement cross-branch/cross-department quality experiences for teens.
  • Provides collaborative leadership/partnership in key YMCA of the Triangle signature teen events: NC Youth and Government (YAG) Conference, Annual Teen Celebration, Leaders Club Exec Retreat, BRLS, CILT Capstone Event and others as needed/developed.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing the YMCA of the Triangle's strategy for supporting Teen Mental Health in partnership with the Association Director of Community Health and the Vice President of Youth Development.
  • Leads the Association's CILT program ensuring quality and fidelity in curriculum, program delivery and participant experience resulting in a strong staff pipeline.
  • Creates a "credit for learning" strategy in partnership with local school districts.
  • Responsible for facilitating year-round volunteer activities for middle and high school teens.
  • Develops strategies, in partnership with VP of Diversity & Inclusion, for ensuring teen experiences are welcoming and inclusive of all.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops and leads Director of Teen Civic Engagement and has dotted line supervision of Teen Directors at branches.
  • Supports the coordination and development of the YAG Advisory Board and committees/task forces as well as all volunteer activities (policy and program) of the department.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  • Accountable for the planning, entering and monitoring of the budget for Teen programs (approximately $1 million.) Develops monthly strategies that ensures close monitoring and analysis of revenue and expenses.
  • Leads the Youth Development Department Annual Campaign of $250,000+ by supporting staff with recruiting volunteers, developing strategies, evaluating the case for giving, and setting goals for success.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Coordinates business operations with other department's including customer service, marketing etc. Works with customer service to answer questions from participants, including fully trained in use of Personify to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Develops and executes the marketing and promotional plan for teens in collaboration with the Marketing Department.
  • Participates on assigned Association Teams and committees deemed appropriate.
  • Performs other duties not specifically outlined in this job descriptions as the demands of the Association might require.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prefers a baccalaureate undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with at least 4 years of youth and/or family programs experience.
  • Models a commitment to the YMCA Mission, Cause, values and leadership competency model.
  • Proven skills in human relations, relationship building and engagement, public speaking, program management, and volunteer development.
  • Maintain necessary certifications including but not limited to CPR and First Aid.
  • Demonstrates a broad understanding of Youth Development, Sports, Recreation and Outdoor Activities, and should be a competent leader in several such activities.
  • Strong ability around marketing and communication for the vision of growth and improvement of the Y Guides program across the Triangle.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
