Raleigh, North Carolina, United States NC Association of Ed Full time
Job Opportunity: Director of Organizational Development

The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Director of Organizational Development. This position will be based in Raleigh, NC.

About NCAE

NCAE is the state's largest advocacy organization for public school employees, representing active, retired, and student members. Our mission is to defend and transform public education in our state.

In the last three years, we have led the largest educator mobilization in state history and mobilized thousands of voters across the state to the polls as part of our successful campaign to halt the privatizer-controlled General Assembly's eight-year legislative assault on our educators, students, and communities.

We are on the cusp of restoring North Carolina as a national leader in education policy and are making moves from the Sandhills to the mountains to win the schools our students deserve.

About the Role

The Director of Organizational Development will work under the general direction of the Executive Director, the immediate supervision of the managers of Membership and Organizing, and Instructional Advocacy, and in cooperation with other members of the association staff.

A major role of this position is to embrace the work of organizing in order to develop strong leaders who advocate for themselves, their students, and for public education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organizing:
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships and build strong partnerships with leaders in assigned locals/region.
    • Collaborate with leaders and members on organizing campaigns within the region, helping to coordinate aspects of the campaign, including strategies, timeline, communication, outreach, and data analysis regarding success of campaign.
    • Understand the value of one-on-one conversations and other organizing strategies.
    • Assist in identifying, recruiting, and developing leaders.
    • Provide and coordinate training for members and leaders to build stronger local organizing capacity.
  • Advocacy:
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and enthusiasm for the mission, vision, and core values of the NCAE, NEA and local affiliates, suggesting activities and programs which are pertinent to the advancement, welfare, and objectives of the association.
    • Obtain relevant information about issues/concerns, generate alternatives, select an appropriate solution to a problem using good listening and facilitation skills, and assist members as needed/appropriate.
  • Educational and Professional Issues:
    • Maintain a basic understanding of the patterns, trends, and best practices regarding education policy.
    • Remain up-to-date on basic understanding of employee evaluation policies and procedures, including the evaluation process.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Be efficient with resources, including maintaining offices and supplies.
    • Integrate basic technology skills beyond the use of email into daily work.
Salary and Benefits

This is a step 0 position of the professional staff union contract with an annual salary of $61,681 plus benefits.

Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage available, employer provided FSA/HRA monies, cell phone and internet reimbursement, mileage reimbursement for work-related travel, 401k Plan, Pension Plan, paid holidays, employer paid life and LTD coverage, voluntary life insurance, and a generous personal, sick, and annual leave policy.

NCAE is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected.
