Job Description

WHAT WE DO: Dunaway is a professional services firm established in 1956, with offices in Fort Worth, Austin, Dallas, Farmersville, Houston, Midland, and San Antonio. We offer civil and structural engineering, planning + landscape architecture, survey, and construction inspection services to public and private clients throughout Texas. As a multi-discipline firm with a staff of over 250+ positioned in our seven offices across the state of Texas – our firm’s size, location, and reputation allows us to provide local, specialized knowledge to each project and each client that we serve.

WHO WE ARE: The Dunaway Difference is our three foundational components (represented by the waves in our logo): Core Values, One Heart and Profitable Growth. The combination of these three pillars creates a feeling and experience that is uniquely Dunaway.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: As a Project Engineer II, you will take on a range of responsibilities, including managing small to medium-sized projects with expertise in project design, coordination, and resource management. Your primary focus will be on tackling complex design challenges, particularly those related to structural strength, across various project types. While you may seek occasional oversight and support for larger or unique projects, you will have the autonomy to independently seal projects and ensure rigorous quality assurance and quality control within your specialized areas. Additionally, you will lead technical initiatives and actively participate in their execution, while also providing essential technical oversight and mentorship to Graduate Engineers (GEs) and Project Engineers (PEs) to foster their professional growth.

Once selected to join our team, you will: Lead the analysis and design of small and medium-sized projects. Take responsibility for designing more complex projects within your area of expertise. Perform design calculations and ensure compliance with codes, manuals, and project scopes. Provide support on larger or specialized projects under supervision. Coordinate effectively with engineers, technicians, and staff to develop plans and specifications. Prepare cost estimates, monitor construction progress, and review relevant documentation. Seal work products and conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities. Modify and produce various project-related documents, reports, and designs. Occasionally visit project sites to assess construction progress. Actively participate in client meetings as required. Assist in resource planning and forecasting under the guidance of the Discipline Lead. Lead and contribute to technical initiatives. Mentor and train Graduate Engineers and Project Engineers. Fulfill any other duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE: In-depth understanding of engineering statics, construction material properties, and relevant design codes. Solid knowledge of foundation systems, gravity systems, and lateral systems, including design and load tracking. Proficiency in CAD/BIM production, engineering design software, and construction plans. SKILLS: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Effective problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple assignments successfully. Capability to work both independently and collaboratively as needed. Skill in providing guidance and direction to others as required. EXPERIENCE: Generally 5 or more years of experience in structural engineering design. Generally 1 or more years of experience as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent. Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas.
