The Certified Medical Assistant/LPN is a member of the medical staff team and responsible for assisting the Medical Providers and Nursing Staff in providing care to the patients at Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center Ambulatory Clinic. Duties must be provided with a professional and compassionate manner with skills and knowledge to carry out prescribed medical treatment and critical support to both the providers and patients. All duties will be under the direction of licensed professionals and providing assistance to the medical team and support staff. The CMA/LPN will perform multi-skilled duties including administrative and clinical tasks that the fall under the licensure and certifications. The position is full-time with 40 hours per week and expectancy of attending the workstation on time 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. The CMA/LPN will serve as the liaison between the providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Screen patients to obtain reason for visit, record patient history, chief complaint, medication information, etc. into the patient's Health Record
  • Obtain vital signs and record
  • Perform basic lab test and EKGs
  • Prepares the exam room for the patient with the understanding of treatments and examinations for the patients including setting up instruments and equipment needed for certain procedures.
  • Administers with proficiency immunizations and other medications under the direction of a licensed professional.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform dosage calculations and measurement conversions
  • Perform phlebotomy depending on qualifications, injections and other specimen collection per established policies and procedures
  • Understands the importance of recognizing urgent situations that required notification of a Provider
  • Can order and maintain clinical supplies
  • Prepare, restock, and cleaning of examination rooms, procedure rooms, and all other patient care areas per established policies and procedures
  • Sterilize medical instruments per established standards and procedures
  • Educating patients by providing information and instructions as directed by the medical provider
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
  • Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal, medical and financial information per HIPAA
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Perform other duties with additional degrees and/or certification completed and approved by the Clinical Director
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Phlebotomy experience strongly preferred
  • Additional degrees and/or certifications or the desire to obtain additional certifications strongly desired
  • Attend additional training as identified and as needed
  • Certified Medical Assistant: Diploma or certification of completion from an accredited Medical Assisting program or eligible to obtain national Medical Assistant Certification within the first 90 days of employment
  • LPN graduated from a state-approved practical nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses along with a current Tristate LPN Licensure
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time and ability to lift up to 30 pounds
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current CPR certification or the ability to attain the certification within 30 days of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
  • Background in computers, chemistry, anatomy, and biology preferred
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • A high level of professionalism with superior customer service skills

Must pass background check, physical, and pre-employment drug screen.
