Job DescriptionJob Description

The clinic nurse provides patient care. The clinic nurse works directly with doctors, specialists, and other care providers to deliver short and long-term care to patients. Clinic nurses aid patients from the moment they enter the clinic by collecting patient information, supporting patient evaluation, administering treatments and medications as needed, and educating patients. This position is full-time with 40 hours a week and expectancy of attending the workstation on time 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. The clinic nurse will serve as the liaison between the doctors, care providers, patients, and patient representatives, effective communication is also key to the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Coordinating with clinical providers for filling patient requests
  • Preparing documentation of all patient medical details
  • Assisting in fixing patient appointments and testing tasks
  • Supporting staff in delivering patient care services
  • Conduct Patient intake and work closely with the patients throughout the intake process to help clinical providers development treatment plans and strategies
    • The clinic nurse will asks patients questions about current symptoms, medical history, and medications to provide the clinical provider with a complete understanding of the patient's current medical needs and background
    • Vital signs including EKG's if needed along with respiratory treatments and other treatments as assigned
    • Direct patients to the exam rooms, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy or other areas as needed
  • Direct support and assistance is required with the clinical providers.
    • Prepare equipment and other instruments and/or assist with procedures
  • Administering medication or treatments as ordered.
    • May include dressing on a wound, apply topical treatments, or administering medication via oral, rectal, intravenous methods or direct injection
    • Follow up with the patients to determine whether the courses of treatment was effective and assess patients during follow up appointments or phone calls
    • Wound Vac experience or willing to learn the procedure is required
    • Central line dressing change or willing to learn the procedure is required
  • Recognizes adult, adolescent, and children's immunization schedule with the assistance of the Electronic Health Record on each patient screened and give the appropriate vaccinations when needed
  • Careful observation of patients on initial and follow-up visits is crucial including overall health, recovery progression, and reactions to treatment and updating patient records to reflect new information
  • Clinical nurses also ensure that the facility is clean and prevent the spread of disease by sanitizing and maintaining equipment
    • Proper disposal procedures for potentially hazardous materials including needles and tubing and clean equipment that is used by multiple patients within the facility
    • Clean and stocking exam rooms and nurses work station is also required
    • Autoclave instruments may be required
  • Effective communication skills with the patients and the care providers
    • Interaction with patients throughout the day and often liaison between patients, patient representatives, and the care providers occurs every clinical day
    • Adhere to privacy laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to maintain patient confidentiality
      • The clinic nurse may need to provide family members and other care givers with information about patient health and well-being
    • Participates in scheduled team meetings as needed
    • At this time COVID-19 remains a high priority and knowledge about quarantine and isolation is essential
      • Educating patients including basic protection against the virus including cleaning home, cars etc. will be requested to be given to patients as needed
      • Testing for COVID-19 or assisting other health care members is a requirement
    • Attend additional training as identified and as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Willing to attend classes (online available) for additional Diabetic Education pertaining to Diabetic Standards of Care for the patient.
  • Extensive experience in nursing and patient care practices

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current Tristate LPN or RN Licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of examination and treatment processes
  • Perform each essential duty satisfactory including:
    • Medical Assessment
    • Patient Care
    • Attention to Detail
    • Critical Thinking
    • Communication Skills
  • Have knowledge or willing to learn the Insulin Pump Therapy including CGM care.
  • Triage skills are required to assist with patients and the chief complaints including phone calls, walk-ins, or scheduled appointments

Must pass background check, physical, and pre-employment drug screen.
