Every day, our community of students, families, teachers and staff comes together to learn, work, and play in an environment grounded in our values of Bienestar (Well-Being), Culture of Belonging, Community Partnership, Agency & Self-Determination, and Joy.JOB SUMMARYThe Lead Custodian manages and leads the custodial staff as well as ensures that the school facility is maintained and cleaned to uphold a safe, secure, and comfortable environment conducive to student learning.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functionsSupervises other custodial team members including onboarding/training, communications (including email) and leading custodial staff meetings.Creates a schedule for the custodial team.Assumes responsibility for campus operations with the principal in the absence of the Building Manager or Campus Operations Manager as applicableServe as the assistant to the Building Manager or Campus Operations Manager (whichever positions apply) as neededCleans classrooms, restrooms, hallways, multipurpose room, offices, staff lounge(s) and all interior and exterior areas of school.Empties out trash cans throughout the building and disposes of garbageSets up, cleans and sanitizes the dining area before, between, during and after breakfast and/or lunch periods.Responds to emergency cleanups during the day, such as clogged drains and spills.Performs minor routine maintenance, including replacing lights, changing filters, etc.Performs minor routine grounds-keeping duties, including picking up litter.Reports required repair work to appropriate parties (such as Building Manager).Helps set up and arrange furniture for assemblies, meetings and special events.Helps organize and stock housekeeping supplies.Ensures all building doors are locked and sets the alarm if the custodian is the last to leave premisesMaintains awareness and readiness to respond to safety/security needs of students, staff and facilities.Serves as meeting facilitator for custodial meetingsSupervises Night Custodial CrewMay support additional projects during breaks such as deep cleaning.Additional:Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements including antiracism, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behaviorPerform other related duties as required and assigned.QUALIFICATIONSCompetencies:Knowledge of safe and efficient use of cleaning materials, chemicals, tools and equipmentAbility to complete minor maintenance, e.g., replace light bulb, filtersAbility and willingness to safely meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the required duties, including ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move heavy objects on a regular basisAbility to maintain simple recordsAbility to work independentlyAbility to interact appropriately with children of different ages in school setting respecting and understanding boundaries.Minimum educational level:High School Diploma or GED or qualified experienceExperience required:1-3 years of custodial experience preferredPhysical requirements:Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder heightRepetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)Demonstrate normal depth perceptionSitting, walking or standing for extended periods of timeDexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephoneSee and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aidsHear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aidesWork authorization requirements:Clear the Department of Justice background screeningAuthorized to work in the United StatesProvide health (TB) clearance (most update every four years)WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
