About the Role We are seeking a passionate and empathetic Economic Empowerment Specialist to join our team. The Economic Empowerment Specialist will work closely with survivors of domestic violence, providing one on-one financial counseling and conducting group workshops on a wide range of financial literacy topics. The Program Manager will develop internal and external resources to develop a robust Economic Empowerment Program to support survivors of domestic violence in gaining economic security and independence. This role is essential in helping survivors regain control over their financial well-being and work toward economic stability. About My Sister’s Place My Sister's Place is a community of staff, volunteers, and advocates committed to eradicating domestic violence. As DC's oldest domestic violence shelter, we have served as a cornerstone of the district's response to this pressing public health issue since 1979. MSP is unique in offering a continuum of care from emergency shelter through transitional-to-permanent housing. Our experienced team of case managers and residential counselors provide clinical counseling, case management, and comprehensive services to empower survivors to recover and thrive. MSP also provides training, case consultation, and advocacy to engage communities to prevent violence and abuse. What You’ll Be Doing Developing an Economic Empowerment Program that serves all MSP clients Managing and growing MSP’s current economic empowerment programs, such as our Fresh Start Fund and RISE Trust Unconditional Cash Transfer Program Conducting one-on-one financial counseling sessions with survivors, assessing their financial situations, setting goals, and creating personalized financial plans Identifying client needs and developing tools to measure success in supporting the economic empowerment and self-sustainability of MSP clients Identifying and developing partnerships to support program and client needs Providing survivors with referrals for additional financial assistance, legal support, and community resources Maintaining accurate and confidential client records and documentation Planning, organizing, and leading group workshops covering a wide range of financial literacy topics, including; Banking and Loans, Budgeting, Consumer Protection, Debt Management, Financial Health, Investing, Personal Bankruptcy, Personal Finance, Retirement Planning, Taxes, and Understanding Credit Adapting curriculum and teaching methods to address the unique needs and experiences of survivors of domestic violence, fostering a supportive, inclusive, trauma-informed learning environment Collaborating with fellow team members, such as MSP’s Workforce Development Specialist, and external agencies to ensure survivors receive comprehensive support Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in financial counseling, financial literacy education or a related field In-depth knowledge of financial literacy topics, including, but not limited to, those listed above Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, social work, or a related field (master's degree preferred) Self-starter with an exceptional work ethic; ability to work independently with minimal oversight Superior organizational skills, including meticulous record-keeping and attention to detail Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members and provide compassionate and non-judgmental support to survivors A mission-driven approach to financial literacy education that is rooted in empathy and sensitivity to the diverse needs and experiences of survivors of domestic violence What We're Looking For At MSP, we are committed to our core values, which guide our every action and decision.
