Overview

General Summary

The Director of IT Infrastructure is responsible for the delivery of all IT infrastructure and related IT operations used to enable business capabilities and services across the enterprise. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer and has line management responsibilities for Network Administrators and Systems Administrators.

The Director of IT Infrastructure brings experience, knowledge, and future vision for transforming the Infrastructure and Operations function including its strategy, operating model, product and service offerings and workforce. The role holder is a senior stakeholder in all relationships with externally sourced infrastructure and operations capabilities.

As a key member of the IT leadership team this role contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wide IT strategy and is responsible for ensuring I&O strategy is fully aligned, positioning I&O to deliver compelling business value.

Responsibilities

Range of Number of Employees Supervised: 3-6

Principal Accountabilities (95%)

Staff Management:
  • Performs all tasks relating to staff management, including performance reviews, accountability mapping, and disciplinary actions.
  • Works collaboratively with direct reports to support their career progression, nurture their development and to help them realize their potential.
  • Ensures all functions assigned to direct reports are completed efficiently and timely to provide excellent member service. Continually looks for ways to reduce cycle time and to improve processes. Implements changes as needed.
Infrastructure Management:
  • Performs analysis of infrastructure needs and provides guidance to direct reports relating to infrastructure architecture, integration, and installation.
  • Ensures the maintenance, upgrades, and patching of all infrastructure are completed timely and efficiently with minimal interruption to business.
  • Introduces innovative, differentiating infrastructure and operations capabilities that enhance our overall competitive capabilities and enhance employee productivity.
  • Works with vendors and internal parties to ensure that the credit union's computing system platform provides sufficient resources to deliver the level of service and performance as required by the business.
  • Evaluates the credit union's existing systems and requirements to align with business needs. Provides input to SVP-CIO relating to budget for changes and upgrades. Develops plans and strategies to support business direction and initiatives.
  • Through direct report management, provides maximal usage and efficiency of assigned IT systems.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation for assigned systems are created and maintained. Follows change management processes.
  • Works closely with vendors and business partners to negotiate contracts and services to the credit union's best interest.
  • Stays abreast of industry knowledge relating to assigned areas of responsibility. Communicates and share best practices. May represent the credit union at industry meetings, technical conferences, professional associations and similar public forums.
  • Regularly monitors systems to identify gaps and in the event of a network issue that has significant impact to the organization, ensures timely and appropriate communication and recovery are developed and deployed. Assures network systems comply with disaster-recovery and IT security plans and standards.
  • Partners with Information Security leadership to ensure infrastructure is compliant with the credit union Information Security Program and all applicable state and federal regulations, and that infrastructure is configured and secured in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Partners with Helpdesk leadership to define, develop, and manage a comprehensive and integrated IT Service Management (ITSM) landscape, based on best-practice processes, disciplines, and related toolsets, such as ITIL and COBIT. This includes delivery of a comprehensive IT asset management program.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with all work units regarding IT Infrastructure matters.
  • Orchestrates integrated contingency planning and business resumption efforts throughout the credit union.
  • Drives alignment of IT Infrastructure projects with the credit unions overall strategic goals as outlined each year by the senior management team.
  • Provides SVP-CIO with relevant KPI (Key Performance Indicator) metrics. Analyze data to identify gaps and remedies.
  • Leads key cross-functional projects by coordinating with internal departments; provides resources and support to bring project to fruition; manages projects to align with timelines and deliverables.
  • Develops and executes a strategy to improve awareness of the business value that the IT Infrastructure function provides, and continuously seeks to ensure alignment to customer needs.
  • Attends the IT Steering Committee and other committees, when required, to present on issues related to IT infrastructure and operations.
Secondary Accountabilities (5%)
  • Serves on assigned committees.
  • Manages special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with BSA requirements as commensurate with position


Qualifications

Position Requirement and Qualifications

Abilities: Excellent abilities in technical skills, staff relations, communication, technical writing, analysis, judgment, customer service, decision-making, organization, planning, problem-solving, process management, team building, and detail-orientation.

Knowledge, Education, Certifications, Licenses:

A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Engineering or equivalent work experience required. General knowledge relating to staff supervision and HR policies and procedures. Pursuit of applicable industry certifications in the areas of network and systems administration or information security are encouraged.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of seven years of work experience with information systems security and IT Infrastructure in a mid-size company or equivalent, to be able to drive IT initiatives, plans and objectives for assigned area; with a minimum of two years of staff management to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to handle all aspects of the position or equivalent. Financial institution experience preferred.
