The Compliance Specialist will have a fundamental understanding of the Companys brand and quality standards as well as regulatory requirements related to Happy Brands product offerings. They will work cross functionally and collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product, procurement, production, sales and marketing teams, as well as our factory partners and labs, to ensure compliance requirements are met including product testing, quality and specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Product Compliance:

  • Ensure products and packaging meet all CPSC requirements, U.S. packaging standards as well as licensor, and retail partner requirements related to labeling and testing.
  • Facilitate the tracking, receipt, review and approval process of photo, pre-production, and production samples with product management, design, and production teams. Lead working with design, production, and sourcing departments on all revisions.
  • Provide timely communication of approvals, comments or required revisions to factory partners.

Product Testing:

  • Schedule, track and submit all product testing as needed for licensors and retail partners as required; In the event of failed test results, continued follow through until successful resolution and passing results are achieved.
  • Manage relationship with factory partners and product safety testing companies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in companys ERP and PLM systems as well as Customer portals for all related compliance activities and product testing.

Issue Resolution:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve compliance related issues and implement corrective action plans. Work with sourcing and procurement to rectify quality control issues.

Regulatory Research:

  • Monitor and track changes in regulatory CPG requirements and industry standards and communicate relevant updates to the appropriate teams. Provide US packaging standards guardrails.

Vendor Compliance:

  • Ensure suppliers have appropriate certification as required by licensing and retail partners. Assist in the management of third-party audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements, maintain appropriate documentation.

Sustainability Compliance:

  • Support sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with relevant environmental and social responsibility standards. Ensure correct logos are used on packaging and or product as applicable.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 5 + years of experience preferably in a compliance or compliance adjacent role such as sourcing or procurement
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to the CPG industry.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate compliance requirements and issues to diverse stakeholders.

  • Excellent attention-to-detail
  • MacOS experience preferred
  • Product knowledge and brand identification a plus
  • Skilled in prioritization to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
